9½ Weeks

I guess this is like the 80s Fifty Shades of Grey, albeit marginally better (emphasis on "marginally"). Most of the "erotic" scenes are in fact about as erotic as shoveling horse manure. No, smearing honey all over yourselves and fucking in the stickiness is not erotic. No, fucking on a concrete staircase in the cold rain is not erotic. Seeing 80s Mickey Rourke is BIZARRE - how did he turn from a more handsome Bruce Willis into a balloon-y impressionist painting of a human being in two decades?

I can't remember, is the water in that one scene coming from the rain or from a sewer pipe? Cause it looks like a sewer pipe. This movie was too kinky.

I want to rate this lower ... but before endlessly available sex and sleaze on the internet movies like this was the closest thing a teenage boy came to visual smut if you didn't have cable in the 80's. So for that reason alone I feel beholden to giving this movie and Kim Basinger a passing score.

Potentially lurid exploitation film manages to skillfully avoid the sleazier aspects of its subject matter to become a compelling examination of power, control and obsession in sexual relationships. Rourke and Basinger are both simply superb (aided by their terrific chemistry) and Lyne applies restrained, subtle direction to ultimately create quite moving drama, in spite of the ineveitably somewhat goofy S&M scenes (though these are handled with surprising discretion).

This holds a special place for me. Yes, it may not be the most compelling story, but who cares, it is hot as hell.

I find this very intensive and good performed. Rourke and Basinger in really good form.

This feels like aliens tried to film an erotic thriller after watching Lyne's other work. So many bizarre moments -- a cat with a mouse in its mouth, a kid trying to fart the theme to Jaws, and an old man stroking a fish. Nothing really happens here. Every once in a while, a scene will happen that will resemble plot, but then it cuts back to Mickey Rourke mumbling and rubbing honey all over Basinger. Want to remake this film with current-day Rourke.

Tagline: "They broke every rule". Including emptying the fridge with a blindfold on... I give this absolutely no points whatsoever for the script. Unless the script specified that Kim Basinger should look really hot and be sexy, I guess. Come to think of it, it must have, because not much else happened, really.

One of the more unique romantic films I've seen. Rourke is the James Dean of the 80s and he is in top form here. I think this has the highest percentage of screen time depicting sexual activities that I have ever seen in a film and the ideas behind these scenes are interesting enough to keep me engaged through all of them. Many movies could learn a thing or two from these sex scenes.

9½ Weeks was a lot better than I expected. It wasn't great but there were some things that it made me think about. I found the relationship interesting but at times it was toxic. Rourke's character was never physically abusive but he may have been mentally abusive. I don't think there is enough information. Basinger's character followed along in the act of their relationship so she must have wanted that kind of relationship. Is the movie realistic? I don't know but it did have some moments.

Crappy drama, OK sex scenes. No bush. *tsk tsk*

Some interesting insight, but mostly just silly fucking.

An usual melodrama with 50 Shades of Grey kind of new approach for sex scenes. It was a thing that time; not much for 21st Century. There was no kinky stuff, just more open erotic moments than movies those times.

This is pretty boring and the music played throughout doesn't work. I'm not sure if it was just me but the movie made me uncomfortable not because of the sex scene which were much tamer than I expected but the fact that most of the interactions with the main actors had an underlying creepiness to it that I couldn't quite place. This is less of a film than music played over a bunch of nearly random montages.

I'm sure at the time this movie was super saucy and sexy, but now a days, it just comes off as weird. Mickey Rourke is hot though. Kim Basinger has always annoyed me.

The Boondock Saints of sex-dramas.

Of anthropological interest only, this movie deserves to be placed in a museum exhibit next to documentary footage of pygmy fertility dances as an example of the weird crap that people once thought of as "sexy".

These two didn't seem like they actually cared about each other as people very much, or really connected, despite everything that was supposed to be going on. Meh, meh, meh.

Silly soft-core porn, but deserves some credit for the stir it created at the time. There's actually a few neat things going on here.

Over-directed '80s schlock that feels like a music video and yet has somehow developed a cult following as baffling as Lyne's previous effort Flashdance. There's barely any story, just a couple silently staring at/fucking each other, yet we're supposed to care at the end when this 'relationship' falls apart. The leads aren't bad and it's got something about it that might appeal to a certain crowd, but I'm not a member. And I've seen shampoo commercials more erotic than this.

Maybe it's just not my cup of tea, but I found this movie boring and quite overrated
