A Boy Called Sailboat

Sedate and laid-back fantasy looks beautiful (the colour design and cinematography scream out for the big screen), but the story it tells will test your limits for twee whimsy (mine broke several times) and a general lack of narrative propulsion makes this a minor chore to sit through, despite its good intentions.

I dare you not to feel emotionally attached to the main character in this film. The camera angles are mostly shown from his perspective, i.e. lower down and his innocence at not understanding his abuela's health situation is both sobering and somewhat sweet in a way. It made me think of the Disney/Pixar film Coco, as its about a young Mexican boy with a guitar. I liked the music played in the background and that there's a heavy emphasis on bright colours, mainly yellows and blue/green colours.
