As much about Stephen Hawking as it is about time, this documentary understandably only scratches the surface of Hawking's work. It's mostly a historical record of the scientific debate on the beginning of time and the universe. I found myself more interested in hearing the stories from Hawking's life. He's a fascinating man, who if not for his debilitating disease might never have sufficiently concentrated his tremendous mental powers and changed the way we think about the world around us.

Nothing really surprising, but combining anecdotes about Hawking's past with his explanations about the workings of the universe turned out to be quite engrossing. I will knifefight anyone who doesn't think Hawking is cool as a cucumber.

Pretty great, being informative and thought-provoking throughout but I felt it could have been far more fascinating. It almost feels like a very effective advertisement for his book, teasing you with Hawking's genius but never going too far into the really juicy stuff.

Hawkings is a very cool guy, but I didn't get much out of this documentary.

Educational and interesting, not sure if the Physics or Hawking himself is the more fascinating part.

Pretty enrapturing, though knowing now that Hawking was wrong about black holes makes it less so.

it was delightful to meet Hawking's family and friends, and his struggle through the disease. The physics part of the documentary couldn't possibly dig as deep as the book, for obvious reasons, and seemed much more like the most known dimension of this great man's life.

A great look at a great mind.

Always interesting, even though it inevitably evokes physics more than explains it, and alludes to rather than deeply explores the philosophical suggestiveness of the subject's ideas. Perhaps Hawking's preference for a scientific rather than biographical focus would have been an even more interesting challenge, though the presentation of ideas of this complexity for even an intelligent lay audience may have proven an intractable problem. Very good score by Glass.

Fascinating documentary about Hawking and quantum physics. This guy is something else, I wish I could borrow his brain for a day to see how it works. Not for a moment I was bored watching this documentary. Hawking has a gift not only to understand but also explain universe the way simple mortals like us can grasp the basics of his discoveries. For the first time in my life I found big bang theory uplifting.

As gorgeous as a film about Stephen Hawking directed by Errol Morris and scored by Philip Glass would be. Its brevity proves to be worthwhile.

The film just doesn't connect. I think there's a bit of a disconnect between Morris' style which suggests things or really great import and the subject, which is at it's most compelling when it focuses on the many small cruelties and amazing luck that life has in store.

You won't learn any quantum physics from this, but it would have been incredibly bold for anyone to make the first ever attempt at even a broad-concept exposition of Hawking cosmology... and Morris pulled it off, presenting the science accessibly and excitingly. We learn just the right amount about Hawking the man (from his brilliant mother among others), creating a holistic picture of a person and his wondrous scientific philosophy. It's a documentary marvelously plotted and told.

An excellent documentary on who, in my opinion, is maybe the greatest living human being.
