A Detective Story

Holy hell this looks cool. The story is OK, but the real star is the gorgeous charcoal/film noir animation. What I wouldn't give to have an entire movie made this way.

Definitely the best short out the Animatrix collection. It has a superb film noir atmosphere and fantastic animation. Certainly worth checking out.

Matrix goes animated neo-noir. Best of all "Animatrix" bunch.

Let's throw 100 noir cliches at the wall and see what happens. Kinda fun though, I'd have to admit.

Watanabe doesn't disappoint, and this is one of the better parts of the Animatrix.

Film noir meets The Matrix. I like the mix of old technology (the phone with the dial plate, the typewriter keyboard) and the digital age.

Look at the title, then look at the script -- it's like something a grade 11 media class student would write. This is certainly the most pointless short from the Animatrix and feels like it was just used to further the trinity character, but who gives a shit about her

This gets closer to the flavor of the original Matrix film than the other Animatrix shorts do, but it's adolescent, it has a non-ending, and it's ultimately rather silly

Probably my favorite of the Matrix anime shorts.

The only Animatrix to fuse a separate, non-sci-fi genre with The Matrix to aesthetic and narrative success. Love the noir-styled visuals and hardboiled detective narration (not to mention the detective's badass cat), and it has the best bittersweet ending of the Animatrix shorts. It was cool to see Trinity (voiced by Carrie-Anne Moss and everything).

Amazing neo-noir art makes this short one of the best in the collection. Expands on the universe while providing great characters and suspense. Even if you're not a fan of the matrix you should watch this

Did the Animatrix really need to be broken up into all ten(?) segments?

Actually not my favorite of the Animatrix shorts, but was a close 2nd. Anyone who likes The Matrix really owes it to themselves to see the Animatrix.

Cool black & white grainy animation style that fits with an interesting crime/mystery style story about Trinity from the Matrix.
