A Diary for Timothy

In some ways this is a better documentary than Listen to Britain. It has a bit more to say and it's honest about it's slightly proagandist purpose. If this were about anything other than world war 2 it might be more interesting, but the film's main theme is "never forget" which really hasn't happened in this case. It also doesn't have the visual energy that Listen to Britain had, which means the films main saving grace it's occasional dry British humour.

Its manipulation feels kind of obvious in particular its attempts at cuteness, though it nonetheless serves as a pretty fascinating insight in to what wartime Britain was like and has the same poetic eye as Listen to Britain.

Another Humphrey Jennings short about the war, this time a capsule chronicle of the final year. I thought the narration (by E.M. Forster) was a bit much, but it was pretty nice otherwise. A little too lengthy.

Um Diário para Timothy estreava há 75 anos no Reino Unido. A primeira coisa que fiz quando o filme terminou foi procurar se o Timothy ainda estava vivo, infelizmente ele faleceu há vinte anos, relativamente jovem. Descobri também que ele foi um Mod nos anos 60 e que aos 15 anos ele também participou de um doc de como foi o pós-guerra. Enfim, mais um trabalho memorável do Jennings aqui retratando o último ano da segunda guerra concomitando com o primeiro de Timothy. BlurayRip RARBG.
