A Dog's Purpose

I love dogs, so this movie did manage to bring tears to my face and yes that did add effect to my experience overall. This looked absolutely terrible but if you are a dog lover you should definitely watch this, and bring a tissue box with you. Film-wise, it really does have an awkward tone of sentimentality that makes you either roll your eyes or totally feel for the pup(s). Probably not a great movie, but I really enjoyed it for the story and tugs at the heartstrings.

Four sad dog-dies-at-the-end movies for the price of one! Was it manipulative? Yes. Did I cry? Also yes.

If you like movies about dogs, and don't mind the standard emotional manipulation that goes with them, this is a movie you'll likely find at least somewhat enjoyable. If you don't like movies about dogs, you're probably a terrible person, because seriously who doesn't like movies about dogs?

Corny and manipulative saga is nevertheless irresistible if you buy into it (and it helps if you go weak at the knees for cute doggies!) Well performed (by both the human and canine actors) and beautifully photographed, its heartfelt message and good nature help it overcome some odd tonal shifts (going into some very dark places) and the strangeness of the "buddha"-like reincarnations of the central animal(s). Fired by Gad's engaging voice-over work.

Yeah, 50, but only because it features dogs, and it wasn't as awful as I thought it was gonna be. The tweensters with me loved it "Better the Rogue One!".

For a cute movie about dogs there's a lot of dog death in here.

A very good movie The characters and families the dog ends up with have issues and problems But it still retains a family friendly quality about it

Cute-ish dog movie. Human stories not very plausible. Prepare the little ones for a lot of dog death.

The dogs are cute, the humans are not particularly well handled.

If you're a big dog person this might do it for you. Personally I found it to be a tonal mess. The dog voice over and perspective are extremely childish and a bit stupid. The human elements are extremely bleak for the most part and not at all suitable for children. So what you end up with is two film styles that don't go together and a weird quantum leap dog who remembers everything about its past lives somehow.

It has its sweet moments but its repetitive, by design, nature and overt schmaltz detract a lot from what could've been a nice family movie.

Super sad, but the plot sucks.

I'm a huge dog fan. And ı had many dogs but this movie kinda bored me. Its formulative and predictable also very messed up in terms of general tone.

We don't deserve dogs.
