A major disaster. It's basically a riff on Fellini, with Sheen in the Mastrioanni role, and Charlie Kaufman-style excentricities on top. Only no, nil, zero, zilch, zip charm what so ever.

Its a light film (given the subject matter it could have been a lot deeper), but I just thoroughly enjoyed it stylistically. Sheen is surprisingly restrained, and Schwartzman and Murray are great in their limited screen time. I just wish it was maybe fleshed out a bit more, so it could really make use of the wonderful supporting cast.

"The film speeds ahead with almost gleeful disinterest in dealing with the narrative challenges it sets up before resolving them in the most perfunctory ways." - Andrew Schenker

I didn't pay for this movie and I still want my money back.

Almost perversely well-intentioned, but so, so frustratingly misguided in it's execution. Coppola directs it like a bad hangover of his buddy Wes Anderson remaking Woody Allen remaking Fellini. Look, i'm like the #1 target demographic for this: I own multiple velour blazers, ironic flares, and i've had my heart broken. But this just really doesn't work. Great soundtrack though, it's good to see Liam Hayes is still around (his music almost deserves a better movie than this though).

It's good to see that Charlie Sheen is keeping busy. This movie is quite strange though. I am a big fan of advertising so I like that Sheen's character is an advertising guy. His car with the decals of eggs and bacon is cool. There are also some seriously funny parts to the movie. It also drags though, so be prepared for some slow spots. There some great cameos from Dermot Mulroney, Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aubrey Plaza. A sleeper that many won't probably see.

(Viewed in 2014):The most fascinating aspect of this film isn't its obvious references to Wes Anderson and Fellini, or its shameless pop art style: it's Sheen's unsympathetic portrayal of an arrogant jerk resembling himself. It's an odd performance given his public meltdown two years earlier, and there isn't a hint of redemption in it. With the right material, it could have been a great middle finger to polite society, but the film is an aimless in-joke between friends that isn't remotely funny.
