A Hatful of Rain

I'm a sucker for this kind of stagey film with big performances and the script is excellent. EMS's performance is a secondary role, but it really stands out in part because it is much more sublimated compared to the showy leads. The leads do a good job, but don't quite hit the right note, often swimming in the middle ground between realism and theatrical when committing to either would be better. It has some slight stumbles along those same lines in the plotting, but overall I really liked it.

if you want a whole bunch of drama thrown in your face you'll get it. if you're looking for anything else, you will probably walk away disappointed. the acting is a little melodramatic, even when they don't need to be, but it's not an entirely unenjoyable movie.
