A Hole in My Heart

This is very, very difficult movie. It's about adults who are completely lost. How you can give a decent life for your kid if you don't know how to live by yourself? All three adults have their holes in their heart. Only more or less sane is the kid, who is escaping into his fantasies. He's not dumb, but his environment is completely something it should not be. I think this movie has not much to do with porn; it's only a vehicle for a critic of our modern life generally.

Moodysson takes a stab at the "shocking yet profound" Lynch-esque thriller/drama and the results are mostly inane. The bulk of the film consists of inconsequential and, erm, nude scenes and, while some of the rapid editing can have a sort of impact, the whole thing ultimately comes off as pointless and, even worse, tedious. Some praise Moodysson's "daring", but to me it seems that he's just trying to shock for the sake of doing so and hoping that someone will consider his droolings art.

Occasionally disturbing but unfortunately not very good, if memory serves.

You probably haven't seen a lot of films like this one, I'll give that to Moodysson. But the audiovisual unconventionality isn't paired with any discernible, articulate message; instead, we are treated to hollow characters, spasmodic editing and random artsy-fartsy shots. The end result is nowhere near as shocking or provocative as it wants to think it is; it's bizarre, unrewarding and even boring.

It's not a porn movie .. or not a movie about porn .. it is about people who makin' porn movies .. and you know they are human being too ..

Definitely pushes the boundaries and puts some shocking and unpleasant images up on screen to make the viewer squirm. There's a faint outline of a story or some character development in there somewhere, but stylistically (the disjointed editing) and thematically (sex-obsessed perversions) it's really hard work just sitting through till the 98 minutes are up.

This film wants nothing more than to shock its audience, but fails because even at its most disturbing, it is impossible to care about the underdeveloped, completely unsympathetic characters. I saw this at a film festival in a full theater. When the credits rolled two people started clapping slowly, then stopped, and then everyone in the room laughed.

Perversion for the sake of perversion taken to unbelievable extremes. Worst movie of the decade by a major director.

Feels like Moodysson vomited the story out.
