If you have ever read any Willa Cather, you will understand instantly why she hated this, um, adaptation (more like travesty) of her novel so much she forbade any more stage or film versions of her work. In terms of what it was turned into, Stanwyck's role was not a good fit for her (or anyone I can imagine)--she's essentially wasted. This leaves the field wide open for the men. Luckily, Frank Morgan is marvelous--he hits every note perfectly. And it's always good to see Lyle Talbot in anything.

How many men are you gonna go through before you feel happiness Barbara Stanwyck?! An hour long movie with a string of men coming in and going out of her life. Fairly flat stuff even if they have quality actors in this First National programmer. You just never feel sorry for Stanwyck even if she uses the entire hour feeling sorry for herself.
