A Love Song for Bobby Long

Hmm. Actually quite enjoyable. Obviously Scarlett made it worthwhile on itself, but the story's nice, and the actors kind of blend quite well together. Also, I approve of Travolta in a tad different role than usual. I recommend.

A Love Song for Bobby Long is a slow-moving drama about three people in a dysfunctional family situation in Louisiana. Its characters are interesting, their conversations are engaging and don't pander, and the actors bring it. It gets a little silly by the end -- if only because of how predictable a particular reveal is and how nobody in the movie even considered it -- and when it tries to get truly emotional, it doesn't succeed. But, for the most part, this is an enjoyable movie.

Like the characters in the movie, I also sometimes struggle with putting down the right words, but I assure you, this isn't from too much imbibing of alcoholic beverages. Perhaps getting sloshed would have helped pass two monotonous hours a little easier.

Scarlett johansson looked good.

For a movie that revolves around books, it is not very well written.

Despite some great moments, "A Love Song for Bobby Long" is a weird, occasionally unpleasant and overall unrewarding film.

Fine drama with a nice, laid back take on life and itself. Nice acting and great music.

john travolta plays someone his own age, fitting. it's really a great indie-ish (in a good way) feeling movie. well acted and well written.

Gave me more of a feel for New Orleans than other films set there. Travolta was terrific in an unusual role for him. Recommended.

A very cute movie that won me over.

John Travolta's big bid for an Oscar. Had a theatrical run for about 3 days on 5 screens nationwide (I know, because I'm one of the few who saw it on the big screen), but it's not that bad. It's just not that good, either

Pre-Marvel Scar Jo teaming up with a washed-up John Travolta in a film by a no name director. It's great to go back and rewatch a lot of these older Scarlett Johansson films to see just how great of an actress she has always been, and we shouldn't judge her based on acting in just these blockbuster films. Film itself is slow and character driven and entirely mediocre.

Noooo, was he ... (SPOILER ALERT!) ... I have never been LESS surprised. Apart from Scarlett's looks and undeniable huge talent, this film offers pretty much NOTHING out of the ordinary. And I can't believe the rankings I'm seeing here from my kumpels. Watch it again. And die from boredom.

All three leading actors do a brilliant performance. Travolta is magnificent. Johansson is beautiful in a not so glamourous role. A great story. A wonderful movie. See it!

I fell in love with everything in this movie. Even the house.

Poorly contrived climax, unbelievable motivations...

A movie not memorable, but it has some charm. An independent production, has good dialogues, good quote from literature, but an end that we knew what would happen.
