A Margem

In this Brazilian Pont Neuf, Candeias refuses to be condescendent with poverty. He looks at these bunch of outsiders with a gentle and poetic look, with an often jazzy score that adds drama to the saga of these people drifting at the margin ot Tiete. The final scene, with three prostitutes (including the black and the blonde), the pimp and the crazy dude (note that he's still alive, but he goes anyway) on a boat going to hell, is just pure beauty. Maybe the best final shot of Brazilian cinema.
