An alright performance of one of Shakespeare's lighter comedies. For some reason gave me a desire to eat yogurt.

Charming Shakespeare adaptation can't compete with Branagh's 90s efforts, but on its own terms quite wonderful at times, aided by Kline's lovely Bottom and an attractive, spirited cast (though Flockhart seems distractingly stuck in ALLY McBEAL mode). Imaginitively staged and conceived by Hoffman (likening the faeries to 'free love' bohemian hippies was a nice touch.)

This is a great version of Shakespeare's classic comedy. Kevin Kline is hilarious.

This fantasy film based on the play by Shakespeare is floaty and whimsical. Most of the actors are great for their roles, and the use of visual effects gives it something that a stage performance couldn't have. It might not be how some would interpret the play, but hey, that's how drama works. Pretty good!

The most of the cast did not have decent room to act except Kevin Kline who was hilarious. From the story I liked only the not-that-well-rehearsaled ending theatre act. The dream itself was pretty out of it's place, but it was worth to see Anna Friel in her undergarment and wrestling in mud with an another girl!

A few flaws, but some of the sequences more than make up for it.

Gets close to capturing the magic of Shakespeare's play, but ultimately feels too aware of itself to completely pull it off.

Even though I have very little appreciation for plays, this Shakespearean adaptation was the first moment I knew Pfeiffer would forever be a fave of mine. I enjoyed it.

It's a shame they skip and rearrange so much but I have this version to thank for getting me to understand (and therefore love) the story to begin with, and I still enjoy it. Love the operatic soundtrack. The players (Bottom et al) are all wonderful, but Kline and Rockwell deserve special mention, I really love their characters.

Sexy telling of Shakespeare's classic story. Drags on too much by the end Otherwise, the acting is hit or average. Brings excitement to the table.

For Shakespeare lovers mainly, this is a fun, peppy, kind of cheezy movie with a lot of heart and a lot of stars. With the exception of Keanu Reeves (who, as always, bites off more than he can chew with Shakespearean and classical roles), the casting is fantastic.

It's a nice concept, and Bottom is just the best!

Some fine actors (plus the lousy Flockhart) do their best - and Kline is a predictably but pleasantly showy, camp Bottom - but the pacing is clunky, the costumes and sets adequate at best. There's no sense of magic, which is of course crucial in any production of this play.

Passable as a Shakespeare adaptation. There are a few impressive sequences, the cast is loaded, and Kline shines as Bottom, but considering the play is one of the Bard's more fantasy-influenced scripts, there's not a lot of imagination here. It's quite dry, and this adaptation does little to play up the comedy in the material. Tucci as Puck for example, should be great fun -- but much like the movie itself, he fails to deliver on the potential. The play within the play is great. The rest? Meh.

Absolutely one of my favourite ever Shakespeare adaptations. It's by no means perfect, but "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays, and this film captures the essence of the play so well. Excellent.

I've seen this on stage as a kid & was never this bored & restless. I also think i laughed more. Hell, if it wasn't for the play at the end i wouldn't have laughed at all in this production. I think a lot was lost in the transition from people moving about on a stage interacting to talking heads. Everyone is cute & the costumes are okay, when you get to see them, a real sleeper. Maybe your own dreams will be better. Doubtless.

Considering I hate the play, this score is generous.
