Just prior to the outbreak of World War I, in the British West African town of Akkra, English woman Myra Carson becomes involved in a scandal and is deported. While Myra's ship is docked at Duala, in German West Africa, the war breaks out and she finds herself facing internment by the Germans.

Elissa Landi stars in a Frank Lloyd film about how a prostitute can survive.... any way necessary. Starts off by tricking a officer's son to marry her so he can't throw her out of Africa. And you can bet more men come into her life after that. Kind of a cool bittersweet film, but I don't think we can call the leading lady a heroine. There are much more appropriate words for her then that.
