It's usually a bad sign that you can tell that the movie was adapted from a stage play. This 'stage-play' feeling follows A Slight Case of Murder from the beginning to the most absurd end. Robinson's role is a parody of the gangster persona he used to act in his earlier films, but humor is very outdated.

Graded a bit down on a rewatch. First bad thing was that while some of it felt a bit familiar, I didn't realize I had seen it before until I went to enter it here. That's usually not a great sign. It's an okay movie but the kid feels pretty unnecessary and some of it feels a bit like it's going through the motions. Robinson is fun as always, though. Middling work for all involved, but not a bad time.

Edward G. Robinson once more spoofs his of own screen persona. He either plays gangsters or parody gangsters. This time it's a joke on the gangster genre with dead bodies, foul tasting booze and an beer drinking, cigar smoking orphan! Quality absurd fun with Ruth Donnelly trying to use a posh accent, which always gets mixed up with the gangster slang. Allen Jenkins as the slightly discouraged crook/driver/butler/babysitter. The lovely Jane Bryan getting hooked up with a cop'er!
