A Vida Invisível de Eurídice Gusmão

A bit over calculated and stretched, and the real star here is the dark, color-saturated cinematography, creating an incredibly rich, heated and dense tropical melodrama. Women whose lives and dreams are shattered by oppressing, life-sucking patriarchy until they really disappear. So they have to live through letters never read and the lives they imagine for the sister they will always love.

An interesting film that explores a common story with in a deeply sensitive way. It is very well stitched and built. The excellent photography makes we feel the expected sensations as reactions to each scene. But what touches me in more intimate films like this is to bring memories of the past. Carefully and deliberately paced melodrama feels like a (very) tame Almodóvar effort; the eventually oppressive length works somewhat against it, especially with a coda whose resolution is fairly easy to predict, thereby softening the emotional resonance. Beautiful performances from the starring duo, and a refreshingly frank, at times brutal dissection of the ugliness of "the patriarchy" makes this a compelling experience; well shot and designed, with a vivid feel for time and place.

The story of two sisters, their indiustructable bond and their efforts to overcome narrow notions of womanhood in 1950's Brazil.

Birbirini çok seven ama kavuşamayan kız kardeşlerin hikayesi. Yunanistan'a gençlik aşkına kapılan Guida ve Brezilya'da görücü usuluyle evlenen Euridice'in aileleri yüzünden kopma hikayesi. Her iki kadının, ayakta kaldığı, özlem ve yaşam savaşını izliyoruz. Uzun süresine rağmen konudan ayrılmadan izletiyor. Türk sinemasını da andıran temasıyla da görünmez yaşamlar izliyoruz. Filmin sonunda, gerçekler yüzümüze vuruyoruz. Çabuk çık tuvaletim geldi.

Masterfully shot and presented, with memorable scenes, somewhat overlong though. Story feels less important than presentation.
