Tyrone Power is a pilots' pilot, but he doesn't believe in anything beyond his own abilities. He gets into trouble by flying a new fighter directly to Canada instead of to New York and letting it be towed across as the law demands, but is offered a new job ferrying bombers to war torn England. While on a layover he finds Betty Grable, an old flame, has joined the RAF as a WREN in her attempt to fight for democracy... (imdb)

"The film 'A Yank in the R.A.F.' revolves around a character portrayed by Tyrone Power, whose behavior is so irritating that it's a shame he represents the Americans. Were Betty Grable's character to make better decisions, she would have chosen the British suitor and dismissed the unfaithful protagonist."

This movie is, to me, more about the relationship between Tyrone Power and Betty Grable than Power being a pilot. It has the cliche love triangle between man who loves woman who in turn loves man, but is seeing someone else. Not the greatest of films, but not bad either.

You do have the dazzling personality of Tyrone Power as a incurable womanizer, along with the more elegant approach of John Sutton fighting for the attention of Betty Grable. So that bit brings on a bit of life. It's just that it seems like this was a poorly written script, or even re-written to fit the world news, and the end result was not the bundle of thrills one could have hooped for.

caught it late night on cable, I can't imagine anyone finding it interesting at all, unless it was the cliche creator, but I doubt that.
