Why do mummy movies always have to suck?

Gives a peak at the Mummy action early on but then there's hardly any at all during the middle, this still is one of my all time favorite outings from our boys. The routines are classic and more of the vaudeville variety than is normally sprinkled into the horror spoofs. Being Abbott and Costaello's last horror venture it's often cited as the worst so it's very underrated. Plus that snake woman at the end is probably the first time as a kid I "got" what all the attraction was of men for women.

Mummy movies are lame. The mummy's always just a plot device in some really lame caper flick with a vaguely middle eastern flavor. Really, mummies aren't even scary. It's like that scene in every zombie movie, where there's just one zombie, and the humans are like "OH my god! What is that? We need to panic to create suspense because this monster is almost completely harmless!" Then they kill the zombie. Lame. And mummies are that, but all the time. Lame. The fat guy was funny though. Kinda.

"It has been said that 'a man's best friend is his mummy.' In Egypt today this theory is to be in great dispute, for two bold adventurers are about to discover another kind of mummy..." Such great opening lines, which unfortunately are not matched by the film that follows.

It's Abbott and Costello. I enjoy their comedy a reasonable amount, but it still gets tiring at times, particularly the contrivances required to move along the plot so that the next set of gags can be set up.

Abbott and Costello really are like a couple of live action Looney Tunes characters. Quite a few scenes and gags are funny but the worshipers of Klaris were really lame. The worst part was the fact that the mummy almost never appears in the whole damn thing.

Like most Abbott and Costello movie parodies it feels a lot like disjointed sketches connected by some sort of setting or theme. Some funny stuff (the sandwich scene in particular) and some good physical humour. Nothing too interesting here but not a bad way to spend an hour or so.

"Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" presents a storyline engineered more for comedic setups than a cohesive plot, featuring gags that fall flat, performed by a tired and uninspired duo. The film is a testament to the overextension of a concept that was once successful.

The last of A&C's "meet" movies, this is fun but rarely scales the heights of some of their earlier work. Some good bits ("The shovel *is* my pick!") and Windsor makes for a very fetching villainess but the mummy make-up is awful.

Eles não são muito famosos no Brasil, talvez seja fácil ver o porquê: contemporâneos de Oscarito e Grande Otelo, mas infinitamente menos talentosos – mesmo com a veia satírica sobre filmes famosos compartilhada com o tipo de filme que a dupla brasileira fazia. Was Richard Deacon ever young?

Well, this is my first (and probably only) Abbot and Costello. Maybe one or two chuckles plus plenty of moments where it's amusing in it's awfulness, but for the most part it is very unfunny and annoying.

An old fave. My parents are old. Sue me.
