Abe Lincoln in Illinois

Too stage-bound, but still a nice Lincoln biopic. Massey is excellent and Gordon is good too.

Predominantly boring. Picks up in the second half.

I still want a portrayal of Lincoln with the high, squeaky voice he really had. It also totally shows that this movie was based on a play (e.g., the often clunky/verbal exposition). It's still a well-made film all around that's worth seeing

Raymond Massey sure looked like the great president, but I missed the more likable quirks of Henry Fonda performance the year before. Also overall a lot of the acting felt hammy, but in it's slowly rushed nature Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940) becomes a respectable portrayal of Lincoln rise to the top.
