Like The Raven, this feels like a discarded Alan Moore idea, and as the title suggests it's quite bipolar, opting both for twisted biopic and vampire-cliches, which works around 15% of the time, leaving 85% poorly written fluff - Think Van Helsing starring a wax sculpture of Liam Neeson playing Lincoln (seriously - the resemblance between Walker and Neeson (both physically and in terms of wooden acting) is uncanny!)

Oh boy, my eyes started hurting after the number of times I rolled them during this movie. The main actor was dull; reminded me of a Liam Neeson/Paul Dano hybrid that can't act. A few interesting ideas thrown in at the end (vampires fighting the battle of Gettysburg), but beyond that pretty boring. Edit: Just IMDB'd the actor: He played a young Liam Neeson in 'Kinsey'.

There's a little bit of fun to be had from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but not enough to justify the time it takes to watch it. For the most part, it's a dreary and dull film that you will have trouble enjoying legitimately or ironically. With a premise as silly as this one, it shouldn't be played straight. It also needed more inventive action scenes and a break every now and then so that the relentlessly quick pacing could give us a breather.

The movie was willing to invest in its story without constantly winking at the audience, ergo, I found myself willing to go along for the ride. Marton Csokas, the king of all chameleon actors, appears playing yet another character totally unrecognizable as him.

Unfortunately the intriguing concept was considered so good that they didn't bother paying for anything else. A ghastly and inadequate script - much of the movie is just a montage of violence, and a montage of history rather than actual *story*. Even the colour palette quickly becomes tiresome - instead of evoking Old America, it looks like a movie made in a factory to order. These guys thought they could have a blockbuster off the premise alone, without actually paying anyone to make one.

It's fun and about as good as one could expect. The action is cool, the plot moves at a crisp pace (except for a short bit in the middle), and it manages to deliver a completely ridiculous premise in as earnest a way as possible. I admired their attempt to try something new and offbeat and truly enjoyed myself.

Aside from a couple of cool fights and some creative ideas, I just found this movie to be dull. Poor acting from the mostly unknown cast and a deathly serious tone that doesn't match the silliness of the idea in the slightest don't help.

It was alright for what it was, I suppose. Some decent action. I do like the idea of alternate histories. I think the main problem with this was that it was taken very seriously. It's an inherently silly idea, and I think a little more humour might've helped. I thought the actor playing Lincoln was very forgettable. I actually forgot what he looked like a couple of times, and wondered who this new character was. I think you'll know whether or not you'll like it just from the title.

This could have been more interesting than it was. The plot development is quite awkward; I suspect that this is because they tried to cut it down too far in editing. Unfortunately, it really destroys the cohesion and tension. I also wouldn't have minded a bit more of political bent to the film - they set themselves up for satire, but never use it.

Although the plot is interesting enough, there seems to be a disconnect between the Lincoln who kicks undead butt and the Lincoln who loves a woman, has a small number of dear friends, and aspires to serve his nation. A little extra effort in the character-development department could have made this a truly affecting movie, something with the ingredients to become a cult favorite. Instead, it's merely a visually impressive, somewhat entertaining action thriller.

A surprisingly straightforward take on an absurd premise, which is to its credit. The action sequences are great, Walker is a superb lead and a dead ringer for Abe, and the story draws some neat parallels between its demonic adversaries and the plague of slavery.

If you read the title of the film, you know everything you need to know---especially whether or not you should see it. I found the idea to be amusingly silly, but of course the movie offers little profound experiment or surprise beyond the obvious pratfalls of an axe-wielding Matrix-y Abe fighting off vampires inexplicably involved in the Civil War. Visually the film isn't particularly great, the storytelling is no good, and the performances aren't even memorable.

Only watched because I missed the start of another movie. Started surprisingly fun though, a couple of enjoyable fights and a well-pitched self-knowing. Unfortunately as the action got bigger -and cgi-er- it's slaver/vampire thing got increasingly unsubtle and the plot developed more holes. By the end it was near taking itself seriously, y'know, because Lincoln ended racism in the USA.

This movie is bad. Simply terrible in every way. Acting was awful. Writing was awful. The way the story was told was awful. The movie was a collection of extended montages that served little purpose other than to attempt to show Abe Lincoln's life as a vampire hunter, over the course of 50 years, and it did not work well at all.

I feel like I want to call this movie "silly spectacle at its most unabashed and innocent" but I've seen The Good, The Bad, The Weird so my view on that is slightly biased. Still, this movie strikes the right balance of knowing it's silly without winking about its silliness, and it also contains maybe my favourite drifting scene in any movie to date. Inaccuracies: Lincoln did not work for Speed in Illinois; Mary Todd wasn't that gorgeous; trains weren't CGI in the 1860s.

Rather pointless, I must say. I hope they don't fall in love with this idea and continue with De Gaulle as zombie hunter and Eisenhower as the destroyer of werewolves. When you try to develop a story around bits and pieces of interesting imagery, the result looks really forced and out of sync. For example following somebody jumping around at the backs of running horses might be a nice level to pass in a video game, but in a movie it feels like an overzealous attempt to impress.

Possibly the best of the glut of “Old Timey Characters… with Zombies/Vampires” from the 2010s – it suffers from trying too hard to weave in a historical portrait, but good fun as a vampire movie in different clothes, with Walker a convincing Lincoln, and Cooper camping it up mercilessly as a Lestat-like ally – his diabolical energy fuels the film to push past some occasional lags in the storytelling (especially when Winstead’s inappropriately sincere Mary Todd moves centre stage).

A super fun concept with mixing history and vampires. Unfortunately, it's just one of those action movies where the action doesn't just seem to carry a punch, it feels meaningless and there's no real tension at any point. I also had a huge issue with how some of the scenes looked. In daylight, certain scenes had this strange glow, like a cheap filter,. Still, it had some entertaining parts, but I came into it not expecting more but brainless fun, and still... it was less than that.

As you grow to like movies, you start to hate movies like this, and you realize how stupid they are. And as you grow to appreciate movies even more, you smack yourself in the head and realize how stupid YOU were. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a lot of fun and hilariously absurd, and frankly is shockingly good. For a film with such a title and such a premise, I wouldn't have said no to some extra silliness, plus the visuals are a little rough and, well, aged, but overall this is a lot of fun. Featuring a good cast, it has a lot of exciting action and a captivating script, and manages to combine them with some great humour, a few very potent scares and its fair share of emotion, epicness and over-the-top campness. What is more, the serious aspects of the story somehow do not get lost in the mixture.

You could definitely tell that people involved with the movie Wanted were part of this movie. The style of the action was superb but unfortunately some of the parts in-between the action really dragged along. I thought the actor who played Honest Abe did a pretty decent job, he was a lot better in his age make-up. I always love seeing the lovely Mary Winstead in any movie, she can light up a room. Bekmambetov lost his spark when he started doing Hollywood movies and as always, he manages to make it a little bit confusing and hard to follow. I found myself questioning why a scene was taking place and what it had to do with everything else, which, in a movie like this is actually hard to do. As to be expected from Bekmambetov, there is an overabundance of sloppy CGI and slo-mo action. Thankfully, these are balanced out, as they were in Wanted, by how OTT and sheer fucking fun it is. We FINALLY get a movie that not only lives up to its amusing title and premise (unlike something like Cowboys & Aliens), but also manages to squeeze an interesting story in there (I actually cared about the political scenes, which I wasn't expecting). Benjamin Walker is fantastic, as is the train scene.

A film with a very silly title and premise which acknowledges how silly it is, but never to the detriment of the action. A very interesting work of cinema - spending a lot of time setting up Lincoln's backstory, intertwining the historical biography with the threat of vampirism - I found it to be a clever allegory for the theme of slavery. The action is very well directed and there are some excellent set pieces but the key villains are bland compared to the henchmen and the film overuses CGI.
