Abschied

The choice of source material is what's most interesting about UFA's first sound picture. Abschied [Farewell] (1930) isn't a typical 30s drama. It has such a sweet naughty tone of emptiness and longing, full of flirtation and play. Feels more like a moment in someone's life then a full story. And that's where this well acted early sound film becomes difficult to appreciate to the fullest, for it shows only hints of a plot and because of it the climax doesn't land very hard. Something different.
