I don't think that it is a film about superstition and praisal of modernity as it is widely believed. I think that Atif Yilmaz searchs for something deeper than that; similar to Kierkegaard's attempt at "Fear and Trembling" Yilmaz insistently depicts Mumin Koca as a good man and a man of belief. Alongside his consciousness aobut his sacrifical promise the perverted structure of the society compels him to commit that act which only under the absurd modernity can seem ridiculous and alienated.
