When the Tokugawa Shogunate ruled the land, Tatsuno castle in Wakisaka Clan's home of Harima held an established custom: an inspection of the arms warehouse. During one of these inspections, government inspector Magodayu Okuno finds a slight bit of dirt on the tip of a spear, which sparks an argument with a low-ranking member of the Wakisaka Clan.

Only OK jidai-geki IMO. Well done but didn't really engage.

An adept but slightly subpar jidai-geki. Just like similar, more leftist films from the time (Samurai Rebellion, Sword of Doom, especially Harakiri) it attacks bushido and Japanese societal order through history revision - and the story is rightly infuriating. But the plot doesn't carry the necessary emotional weight of its peers, probably because the lead lacks the gravitas of a Mifune or Nakadai, and everything feels low-rent as a result.
