I seem to have lost all my detailed notes on this movie so I’m going to wing it: Elisabeth Shue is perfect. Phew, still got it.

I just caught this on cable; it's mediocre save for Elizabeth Shue's cute as a buttonness. Also, growing up in Racine, Wisconsin, I noticed that every shitty neighborhood in the Great Lakes region looks the same. So, if you are a filmmaker in Hollywood, and you want to set your Burbank-filmed travesty in the North Midwest, take aesthetic notes from this movie.

One of a number of similar regular people adventure movies that came out during the 80's. This one may be a little less known than the likes of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," but it's fun and entertaining.

This is a (foolin') good movie. If I saw this movie at 7, I would have been too scared to have ever gone to the city. My partner had a crew jacket from this film when she was young, and donated it at some point in her life. I want that jacket badly.

The most incredible part of this movie occurs when one considers how much ozone was depleted in order to make Elisabeth Shue's hair that huge with hairspray.

80s adventure with Elisabeth Shue when she was still hot. 2 out of 3 wise men bearing gifts agree this is an OK movie. Watch with Howard the Duck for optimum performance.

I don't know why, but the opening sequence with Elizabeth Shue is half the reason why I really enjoyed this one. It just set the mood for pure fun.

What an awesome and fun 80's movie! Ranks right up there with Princess Bride! Why has no one ever made me watch this before?

Gloriously wacky 80's hijinx. A little slow by today's standards, but otherwise better than 99% of the stuff they market towards teens nowadays. Soundtrack while not bad was a little underwhelming. Definitely missing those cheesy synths, but at least it continues the tradition of 80's teen movies ending with their best song.

Hardly adventurous, but alright nonetheless. Simple and silly, one of its strongest points today is how much it shows the ridiculousness of the 80's. Ugh!

A fun 'babysitter's day out' adventure ride in the course of an evening.

Completely dull and unfunny all around, despite some nice production design. It also falls into the 80's trend of not leaving the suburbs because you'll run into criminal ethnic stereotypes who represent danger, yet are too impotent and stupid to actually kill you.

Immediately in the opening scene with Elisabeth Shue dancing and lipsyncing to The Crystal's "Then He Kissed Me" it's clear you're in 80s teen comedies territory. I found this one about as enjoyable as some of it more popular peers. It has the right degree of fun adventure and doesn't pretend to be much more.

A funny little comedy about a night of babysitting where everything goes wrong. The craziness of each situation the characters find themselves in is somewhat hard to believe, but makes it interesting. It has a rather negative look at cities in general, but this isn't movie trying to make a serious point. It's more of a movie where you just sit back and wonder what bad turn is going to happen next and how they'll get out of it.

I liked this. Cutely subversive (selling a demonized "Big City" to the naive suburbanites it wants to both pander to and make fun of) but it's mostly just dumb and wacky '80s hijinx with slightly better writing than usual.

It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but it is a hugely entertaining late-80's adventure comedy with some surprisingly clever humor and plenty of heart. Elisabeth Shue is fantastic as the lead, and her three charges turn in enjoyable performances themselves. With a lively and talented supporting cast, a quick-moving plot, and several heartfelt moments throughout, what flaws it does have are easily outnumbered by its positives. Very worth a watch.

Compares favourably to 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.' Probably because Elisabeth Shue is a hotter babysitter.

A very silly movie w/ characters who behave like characters in a movie rather than actual people. It's meant for a younger crowd though, so I can't hate on it too much especially since Shue is always wonderful to watch, especially w/ some great songs around her. It's also saved by the last half hour where the stakes suddenly go up way higher (literally) than I thought & even though I know things will be alright, I felt suspense. The ending also has a wonderfully bittersweet moment for Coogan.

It has a few moments, but too much of this film is cringey. Even for 1989, the treatment of race in this film is a little iffy. Some of the humor and tropes seem forced. It has a few moments, but it was hard to get through.

This is a cute timestamp of over-the-top 1980s fun that meshes well with Chris Columbus's distinct lack of visual style. Good way to pass the time. You know, on a stormy night, in the basement you've set up with an oversized poofy couch, and a 15" tube TV sitting in a massively ugly entertainment centre, with the strict rule of nothing invented past 1989 may enter the area. You know, your Nostalsement. What? You guys don't have a Nostalsement? Me, me neither.

Had I seen Adventures in Babysitting as a child, I suspect nostalgia would make it enjoy today. Shue delivers an enthusiastic performance. Columbus' direction is breezy. The plot is that classic 80's combo of campy, absurd and taken wholeheartedly seriously by the characters. However, as it stands watching he film for the 1st time in 2023, it is incredibly dated. From the train gangs to the white suburban paranoia to most of the dialogue. Fun, but how old was Whitford's character supposed to be?

Exactly what you probably expect. It's sort of a variation of 'After Hours' for young teenagers. Though, of course, not exactly nowhere near the same league of Scorsese's film, 'Adventures in Babysitting' is a good-natured and reasonably fun romp. Plus, in smaller roles we get early performances by one Mr. Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio (as Thor, no less) and Bradley Whitford (as a dick; ... you know, in a figurative sense).

Re-watched this on Disney+ and they censored the shit out of it. The scene where the brother calls Thor a "homo", is instead replaced by "weirdo" And it's such a bad and cringey dub over. I find it hypocritical for Disney to censor and ban things because it offends people, then turn around and add violent and sexy films (via Star), and then leave it up to the parent to censor things from their kids. Well then just leave everything uncensored, you cunts! Let adults make adult decisions!

Unlike many 80's films, this one doesn't hold any nostalgic value for me. Sure, I had seen it as a kid, but I couldn't remember much about it. Seeing it from 2021 point-of-view - It's an OK 80's family film. The way that it's flirting with more adult stuff like Playboys, prostitutes etc. would probably not fly today. Some scenes were fun, but others such as the musical number in the blues bar are pretty cringeworthy. Bonus point for Elisabeth Shue who is very cute in this.
