I seem to have lost all my detailed notes on this movie so I’m going to wing it: Elisabeth Shue is perfect. Phew, still got it.

I just caught this on cable; it's mediocre save for Elizabeth Shue's cute as a buttonness. Also, growing up in Racine, Wisconsin, I noticed that every shitty neighborhood in the Great Lakes region looks the same. So, if you are a filmmaker in Hollywood, and you want to set your Burbank-filmed travesty in the North Midwest, take aesthetic notes from this movie.

This is a (foolin') good movie. If I saw this movie at 7, I would have been too scared to have ever gone to the city. My partner had a crew jacket from this film when she was young, and donated it at some point in her life. I want that jacket badly.

One of a number of similar regular people adventure movies that came out during the 80's. This one may be a little less known than the likes of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," but it's fun and entertaining.

The most incredible part of this movie occurs when one considers how much ozone was depleted in order to make Elisabeth Shue's hair that huge with hairspray.

I don't know why, but the opening sequence with Elizabeth Shue is half the reason why I really enjoyed this one. It just set the mood for pure fun.

80s adventure with Elisabeth Shue when she was still hot. 2 out of 3 wise men bearing gifts agree this is an OK movie. Watch with Howard the Duck for optimum performance.

Hardly adventurous, but alright nonetheless. Simple and silly, one of its strongest points today is how much it shows the ridiculousness of the 80's. Ugh!

It's not the greatest or most watchable 80s goofball but it is memorable enough for me to actually recommend it. I enjoyed it.

Compares favourably to 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.' Probably because Elisabeth Shue is a hotter babysitter.

I liked this. Cutely subversive (selling a demonized "Big City" to the naive suburbanites it wants to both pander to and make fun of) but it's mostly just dumb and wacky '80s hijinx with slightly better writing than usual.

Completely dull and unfunny all around, despite some nice production design. It also falls into the 80's trend of not leaving the suburbs because you'll run into criminal ethnic stereotypes who represent danger, yet are too impotent and stupid to actually kill you.

Gloriously wacky 80's hijinx. A little slow by today's standards, but otherwise better than 99% of the stuff they market towards teens nowadays. Soundtrack while not bad was a little underwhelming. Definitely missing those cheesy synths, but at least it continues the tradition of 80's teen movies ending with their best song.

What an awesome and fun 80's movie! Ranks right up there with Princess Bride! Why has no one ever made me watch this before?

The Sitter tried to recreate the magic with this movie. It didn't. Yay Thor!

Immediately in the opening scene with Elisabeth Shue dancing and lipsyncing to The Crystal's "Then He Kissed Me" it's clear you're in 80s teen comedies territory. I found this one about as enjoyable as some of it more popular peers. It has the right degree of fun adventure and doesn't pretend to be much more.

Dullshimmer | 80 36th |
A funny little comedy about a night of babysitting where everything goes wrong. The craziness of each situation the characters find themselves in is somewhat hard to believe, but makes it interesting. It has a rather negative look at cities in general, but this isn't movie trying to make a serious point. It's more of a movie where you just sit back and wonder what bad turn is going to happen next and how they'll get out of it.

It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but it is a hugely entertaining late-80's adventure comedy with some surprisingly clever humor and plenty of heart. Elisabeth Shue is fantastic as the lead, and her three charges turn in enjoyable performances themselves. With a lively and talented supporting cast, a quick-moving plot, and several heartfelt moments throughout, what flaws it does have are easily outnumbered by its positives. Very worth a watch.
