Africa Screams

Shows the boys matching wits with Joe Besser and Shemp Howard. Throw in a guy in a monkey suit, then the legs on Hillary Brooke and you've got a nickel's worth right there with the theatre's AC.

Abbott directs Costello's attention to a sign which says, "WARNING SWIM WITHIN THE NETS," upon which reading Costello responds, "Who's walkin' on the grass?" Now that's comedy gold! For the record, I'm no fan of caged animals or human slavery.

Cheerfully silly A&C outing is not particularly distinguished from a film-making (or even performance) aspect, but the boys are always good for a giggle, with Costello particularly funny, especially in the opening scenes. Goes on too long, and starts to repeat itself (even at 80 minutes) but remains agreeable enough entertainment.

Not Abbott and Costello's best movie, but still a fun watch and there are several fun moments.

Features not one, but two real life adventurers from 1930s serials - Clyde Beatty & Frank Buck. Features not one, but two Three Stooges - Shemp Howard & Joe Besser. Features not one, but two Baers - boxing greats Max Baer & Buddy Baer. And features not one, but two numskulls trapped in the jungle with gorillas and pussycats. Namely Abbott & Costello. This was their least funny in years, but having Costello constantly running from trouble provided plenty of laughs.
