There are signs that Mandico is coming into an idiom of his own development here. Alchemy seems an appropriate reference point more than ever. Writing is a weak point, (opaque navel gazing bullshit) and yet by some miracle the film sustains itself in spite of such a critical soft spot for 2 hours. I felt Löwensohn may have been a little mischaracterised here, or dare I suggest that Mandico refrain from casting her in absolutely everything....

TIFF 2021: From what I remember dozing in and out of consciousness this was perhaps one of the most frustrating examples of rather brilliant visual work and just the dullest story.
