After Darkness

For the most part, this is pretty bad: the sun burns out in the first 20 minutes, every "family meal" is a tire fire, and none of the tension or anger or sadness is earned through quality of performance or storytelling. It's all random emotional outbursts without much depth worth mentioning. That's a shame, because the halfway point in the movie does kind of perk up a little, but never above treading water. One of the rare occasions where a longer runtime (pre sun burnout) would have helped.

This movie is marketed as science fiction, but it's a boring, shit movie about family drama. After watching for 30 minutes I realized I didn't care about any of the characters or their supposed predicament. The actors lacked charisma and I found nothing compelling to continue watching so I jumped ahead multiple times to see how the plot unfolds. There is nothing interesting or redeeming and I'm glad I didn't sit through the full 95 minutes.

I wanted to see the end, but not that Thrilling. It is more a Drama with Thriller undertones in a sci-fi context. The sci-fi is not that important here, it is just the reason why they gather in the house.
