It's a little wierd movie. I was lost throught the whole movie, I had no idea where it wanted to go and what it should have made feel. But the perfomances were fine.

McKenna isn't a hooker with a heart of gold; she's just a hooker, for better and worse. And from her character on down, Soloway sets everybody up to fit into an archetype which validates the self-absorbed protagonist's worldview only to bring it crashing down later on, reminding our ostensible hero that just because you're asking questions doesn't mean you have all the answers. It's pretty unfocused, but its offbeat humor and strong cast cover up its flaws.

let's just say that whatever was there in the script the movie did a really good joob bringing to life. let's also say that whatever was there in the script wasn't always stuff I particularly liked. seriously I'd like to dislike this movie way more and rant about it and stuff but I simply don't. :/

Unlikable characters, here! Step right up! Yet another entry in the "bored housewife struggling with the surface 'perfect life'." For me, personally, these are the characters I have trouble relating to the most. so maybe I'm biased. Still, don't want to be overly negative. The story is unafraid to explore some pretty dark territory at times and it includes one excruciatingly awkward scene that's on par with the UK's "The Office". A little more of that may have better served the story.

Soloway is feminist artist and activist. She began career as a playwright, author of The Miss Vagina Pageant. Later she wrote short story Courteney Cox's Asshole (it's about anal bleaching). Her film debut - Afternoon Delight - premiered at Sundance to critical acclaim and won Directing Award. However it's not the awards she's doing it all for, she says, but something nobler - to incite feminist revolution. Women want to have sex for money, but white empowered male enslave them. All true

Kathryn Hahn is marvelous and believable as a housewife who is feeling cooped up and stifled. When she reaches out for some change and excitement, she unwittingly brings a destructive force into her lives that nearly destroys her marriage. Juno Temple convincingly portrays a beautiful young stripper hooker. The plot meanders a bit in different directions. Edgy, interesting and uncomfortable, but mostly in a good way. Dramatic and realistic.

Gave Radnor the Aerosmith tee props had. He stared at me and asked if I thought he was an asshole. Said he was gonna wear his Lee Hazlewood shirt instead. Shot the scene. Now he's walking around and trying to get everyone to try it on. When I said no he just kinda shuffled away mumbling the lyrics to "All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem.

Strange in that I could never make out this film's purpose. Very good performances and great realistic dialogue though

Initially I thought this movie might be on to something about sexual relationships. Sex starved and bored Rachel stalks a sex worker and "befriends" her to spice up her self image. However after making her their sons nanny she insults her by indicating she is not good enough to watch real kids in her local bitch club. Leaving her home with a pack of hubbies friends leads to trouble. Rachel the hypocrite never apologizes for her minimization of the dancers humanity. Everything turns out American

Afternoon Delight is a good display of realistic dialogue, capturing the funny moments and awkward silences alike. The film isn't that subversive, but it does play with social archetypes in order to serve a lesson about self-acceptance. Hahn and Temple carry the film on their performances, but all the female characters are easy to empathise with. Soloway's treatment with the males isn't as nuanced. The film is a bit seedy, a bit depressing and a bit affirming, but the ending feels tacked on.

I enjoy Katheryn Hahn, but this is a mess. It starts with an absurd premise but treats everything else super serious. I don't care about any of the characters and found the whole thing off putting.
