Jeff Bridges is pretty awesome in this movie. The plot meanders a bit, and some of the dramatic beats are overblown. There are, however, some good, suspenseful scenes in the latter half.

While a bit slow, this movie has aged surprisingly well in 23 or 24 years. A nice twisting bit of melodrama. Well acted by Jeff Bridges, and look for Alex Karras, who besides really having been in the NFL, also played the father on TV's Webster.

The song is the best thing about this movie (even though it doesn't have much to do with it). Implausible and overcompressed script, and none of the people are really fleshed out except (maybe) the two leads (yet their contradictory impulses remain unfathomable). "You're the only one who really knew me at all"? We don't get to know any of these characters...except maybe Sam. The only truly affecting sequence is Ward crying to the song at the end, but we have to provide our own backstory for it.

Dated noir with some really good moments.

Really bad acting from the romantic interest. Though naturally James Wood and Jeff Bridges did a good job.
