The first half is very drawn out, and not helped by the annoying naivety of Iverson. Mikkelsen as a character is consistently interesting thanks to Coster-Waldau's charisma and passion. Things for me didn't become especially compelling until the second half, where both actors delivered powerhouse performances and the suspense gets much heavier despite the secluded setting. Good survival flick, but a bit too unbalanced.

Undoubtedly an incredible tale, but strangely still not a very interesting one, at least in this telling. Still, kind of interesting to compare with Troell's (far superior) FLIGHT OF THE EAGLE (set in 1897) and Kalotozov's (not so great) THE RED TENT (set in 1928), which tell similar stories set across three decades: at least in this tale of folly Mikkelsen's 1909 expedition actually had something like a meaningful purpose, unlike those of Andrée and Nobile.

It was alright, but quite dull. Decent acting saves it from being boring, despite covering an interesting topic.

The film fails to emotionally invest the audience in the story and characters due to the poor pacing and lack of tension, and the reliance on dog deaths to generate emotion comes off as manipulative and unnecessary. However, the impressive cinematography, evocative score, and strong performance by Coster-Waldau save the film from being a complete disaster.

Nothing really stands out in this film, but you do learn something about the Danish expeditions to Greenland. The story could have been better told. Some of the more interesting bits are the mechanisms the two protagonists had to use in order to survive for so long.
