Agrarian Utopia

indebted middle class farmers get kicked off their land by the banks, forcing them to farm for someone else. the camera captures lengthy and detailed scenes of rice farming whilst animals flitter around the workers. here it is clearer than anywhere else that capitalism, at least in this form, is just a modern form of feudalism. meanwhile, politicians politick, and the cycle never ends. extremely beautiful photography.

In one interesting moment, Raksasad compares his peasants' plight to a bird wading through muck for food, while other birds quickly bombard the water more successfully. Still, I don't think the title was meant to be entirely cynical. "I guess everyone has his own kind of happiness," one character says, and it's this cautious sentiment that endures, even after the evocatively apocalyptic parting shot of a man traversing a doomed cityscape has faded.
