Excellent subject material, but as far as film-making and documentaries go it had room for improvement.

An interesting look into an interesting man. The documentary does a good job showcasing his art and his activism, often times blending the two together (as it should be). If you're into this kind of thing, it should be really fascinating for you (unless you already know his story).

Fascinating portrait of the famous artist/activist and of China. A snapshot of a society in the midst of titanic changes. Ai WeiWei's personality naturally dominates the proceedings.

Ai Weiwei is a genius. I don't know the solution to China's problems, but I know that Ai Weiwei represents the kind of change that China needs badly.

A good documentary about the confrontational Chinese artist focusing mostly on his clashes with the Chinese government, especially his attempts to talk publicly about the 5000+ children who dies in the Sichuan earthquake due to shoddy school construction. It doesn't focus much on his art or put it into a greater context, but it's an inspiring portrait of someone who's too stubborn to say no.

As a documentary it had its flaws. But Weiwei is really an intriguing figure.

Like a lot of documentaries, it really only skims the surface. The biggest problem here though is the ending, it had the perfect jumping off point to go into more about his arrest, but instead simply ends with his release and him telling reporters he can't talk about it.

Brief look at a brave, professional shit disturber, raging against the most powerful of machines.
