Just a big nothing of a movie. There are no stakes. At no point does it feel like they're going to lose the deal. And even if they do, there's no sense of why that would matter. Why should we care if Nike doesn't land this deal? They're still a huge company. Why should we care about Sonny? We learn almost nothing about him.

Argo was a film with tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. Air is a film with tension so thin you would think you're watching a bizarro SNL skit. In the end, its a passable popcorn dramedy for the 50+ crowd that will be forgotten faster than the throw away exchange Damon and Bateman have over the moral quandary of starring in a movie lionizing a company whose chief business acumen was outsourcing third world labor to make cheap shoes.

There’s nothing technically wrong with it on any writing or filmmaking level - but I just didn’t care whether or not they landed the deal and their shoe drama never won my interest over. If the movie had ended with Nike going bankrupt and everyone losing their jobs I’d have been like “lol.” Also lol at them constantly hiding / filming around the Jordan actor’s face like it’s Austin Powers’ privates.

Jason Bateman takes a huge shit and runs his fingers through his hair before washing his hands. Waiting for the Fruit of the Loom biopic, Kevin James getting the grapes. Been watching a lot of movies about products I'm numb to everything. Zero interest in sports, a lot of interest in Space Jam , I wear running shoes to gingerly walk, I was kinda riveted against all odds.

Well made, but unimportant. At one point Jason Bateman starts talking about his divorce and his daughter and how Damon's risky approach to the Jordan deal could cost him his job, and I was like "Oh, something that matters!" Then the movie forgets about that.

Mid as all hell, but in a very watchable way. Affleck's mind tricks keep one from realizing that the true protagonist of this film is Nike's balance sheet. Michael Jordan really made a lot of people rich(er).

Non-stop masculine histrionics with an over explanatory script (yes, even the “jokes” get explained in the dialog) that tries to mimic Jerry Maguire but is nowhere that engaging or fun. A caricatural and aside from Damon and Davis mostly terribly acted hymn to greed and celebrity worship that strikes no human notes. There’s no reason for this movie other than to promote Nike, it’s fundamentally uninterested in what processes are at the heart of this dark human tendency

While it is by no means my favourite movie of the year, that's just mostly due to the fact that I didn't care about the subject matter. That it's able to jump over that obstacle just speaks to the quality of the film overall. There are no problems with it. It's got an incredibly clever script full of snappy dialogue that's delivered wonderfully by everybody involved. Affleck proves, yet again, that he's a great director. Not flashy but good usage of fundamental filmmaking.

A guy in my theatre yelled out BOOM when they showed the original Jordan design, they said MJ was the GOAT and when they said Nike bought Converse. That says more about this movie than any review can

Sort of pointless but still entertaining. As many have pointed out, there's no stakes in it at all. It's a film about whether or not they'll get a deal everyone knows they'll get. I thought the film would go beyond that and felt that it ended just when things were going to start happening. Anyway, it's a harmless afternoon watch and pretty solid at that, but I don't see a reason to actually recommend this to anyone. If you feel like "putting A movie on", this is fine.

Air is better written than it is directed, telling an unnecessary story amped up on nostalgia. The punchy dialogue is the best part (I chuckled out loud a few time) and the cast is great as well. Sadly the film comes across as a celebration of corporate America in the 80's, glorifying greed & money-defined personal worth. If bringing up Born in the USA was supposed to be a nod of irony to the audience it severely missed its mark. Still an entertaining film despite the awkward Jordan inclusions.

Well-paced and consistently entertaining take on a story that shouldn't necessarily make for engaging cinema. It's a little too slick at times, with inspirational speechifying that totters on the edge of corn, but it's carried by uniformly strong performances - Damon, Bateman and Davis the standouts - with the notable exception of bug-eyed Tucker, who seems to be mugging his way through a completely different movie.

It's really so well put together than you start to forget that Nike is hardly an underdog, and this is really a film about a multi-billion dollar company becoming even bigger and making a soon-to-be-very-wealthy athlete even wealthier. It's a nice trick. My only real complaint about the film is that it's WAY too dedicated to reminding you that it's set in 1984.

Air is just a fun movie. The cast is excellent and work very well together. Everyone from Matt Damon to Matthew Maher is in top form. Stylistically I love this with the wall to wall cheesy period specific 80's soundtrack. Yeah I have to subtract some points, because we all know how it's going to end, which gives the plot an air of inevitability, but otherwise I think Convery and Affleck did about as best they could with the subject at hand.

Grandly entertaining semi-biopic - a vibrant and witty portrait of people at the top of their game doing what they do and succeeding. While Affleck largely gets the period milieu right, the needle drops are excessive and abrasive enough to be a distraction, but its careful, old-school attention to character detail and dialogue makes this an oasis in the desert; complemented by Damon (rarely better), Bateman and Davis, with Messina contributing one brilliant scene that almost steals the show!

Great film. Excellent cast, banging 80s soundtrack, interesting story, well paced. A few moments it gets a little too cheesy on the speeches, but that's fair enough really. The cynical side is that its one big corporate love letter, but if you can put that aside, its a fun, light watch.

I believe, when this year is done, that there will be movies I will like better than "Air", but very few will stick with me like "Air" will. This twentieth Affleck/Damon joint is the 2023 movie I will think about when I need motivation or a shot in the arm confidence-wise. Wildly charismatic cast, where everyone more than carries their own weight with a snappy screenplay. Call it "an ad for Nike" if you will, but I didn't care about Air Jordan, Nike's story, Phil Knight, any of that. I do now.

Honestly I only ticked this off just in case it ends up being a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars next year. Pretty much didn’t care for it and found it mostly uninteresting. Nothing really bad per se and the performances were fine, but the way they made Michael Jordan be there without being there was a bit weird and unnatural. Very by-the-numbers and meh.

Starts out a little slow, like an average sports biopic, but once the film hits its stride with the chase to sign Jordan, I was hooked. It fully embraces its 80's nostalgia and sometimes cheesy schmaltziness, until you remember that every kid in the 90's did, indeed, want to be like Mike. And then the film kind of hits. Great acting that brings more life to scenes of people discussing contracts and designs then you would think possible.

An adequate and fun film that passes the time with good direction and performances, but because of the insanely well-known topic, there is no tension. We don't really learn anything beyond a couple of tactics used to pitch the deal. Damon's speech during the meeting with the Jordans, featuring dramatic music and a montage of clips from Jordan's real-life future, was awful. Knocked off 5 points for that alone. Would be better as a documentary with a more critical lens applied to Nike.

It was good old-fashioned Hollywood biopic-type flick. It is exactly what you would expect, nothing more than that. It reminds me of "Moneyball" and I've heard that elsewhere as well. A lot of the enjoyment for me were the nods to the 80s: music, fashion, hair, technology, it really brings back that decade if you lived through it.

A very well told story with an A-List cast that delivers. While the story is predictable because we know the outcome it shows just how much confidence is the key when you are an athlete of Jordans stature. When this deal was made all of what Michael accomplished was a dream. Michael is the single most recognizable athlete on the planet and changed the game. Brilliant movie.

Competently made, well acted, and consistently watchable, Air unfortunately doesn't have a lot to say. We know how it will end and I couldn't help but feel that it was a 2 hour big name commercial for Nike (and MJ.) It's a pretty paint by numbers movie of this kind, and a bit of a disappointment from Afflect, though it's not bad.
