Pretty lame comedy, but I like it anyways.

I don't get why this movie has bad reviews here.(PSI: 41 - WTF) Sure, it's contrived -- Mel and Rob get out of their jungle fix because Mel just happens to have a Laotian wife and a house in the middle of a jungle -- ya, right -- but who cares? There's tons of contrived stuff in movies, that's what makes em movies! All in all, this is a super fun movie. Good acting and GREAT, simply GREAT flying scenes with some super talented pilots -- certainly no cinematic masterpiece, but still a lot of fun!

With this sort of movie extinct, you look back and marvel at the money and technical expertise thrown at something so labored and unworldly. It's like your first draft of some sort of political satire or other, made with Mel Gibson and all the explosions your producer can afford.

Hard to believe you could throw peak Gibson and young Downey into a movie together and come up with something this flaccid and dull – though the problem doesn’t reside with either performer (Downey’s quirky mannerisms are a highlight) but with the screenplay, which seems uncertain and confused as to whether it wants to tell a sardonic, CATCH-22 like satire on the military, or be a WHERE EAGLES DARE style actioner that leaves the politics behind; by trying to be both, it satisfies as neither.

A good film that flew under the radar from 1990 that I never even knew existed until recently. Not to say it's great, but it is well made and has charismatic leads who deliver on the action and a few hahas.

While trying to be socially relevant, the storyline and the acting aren't so hot. But the flying and action scenes are pretty good.

This movie isn't even close to being good enough for a remake 30 years later.

Quality acting does not overcome a poor script, nor the fact the only time I saw this movie, I laid dying in a hospital.

Read the reviews, watch the movie. This is one of the biggest WTF?'s I've had in a while. I can't tell if it was contrived or unconventional, had good acting or bad, a comedy or a serious political statement or both. Screw it.

Amazing subject given underwhelming treatment.

Fairly decent story based on the true story of how the american government were running drugs out of Vietnam during the war there.
