Akira Kurosawa: It Is Wonderful to Create

Quite interesting 36-minute documentary about the difficult five years between RED BEARD and DODES'KA-DEN, and Kurosawa's reluctance to embrace colour, despite or because he was originally a painter. Also interesting is that the documentary describes his eventual success with colour, listing several of his later works, but ignores DREAMS, despite the latter being probably the greatest of his colour features and certainly the most painterly. But for me, his best films aren't his most celebrated.
