Revisiting this many years after the fact, the core story of Jafar's revenge and Iago's redemption isn't awful, but it's surrounded by poor animation, forgettable songs, and cringey attempts at humor. Dan Castellaneta is many things, but he's no Robin Williams.

As a child I remember being quite upset the day my VCR ate this tape (and subsequently died). Something about Genie-Jafar was unspeakably awesome to young me. Retrospectively, I mourn the loss of my VCR. It killed itself instead of finishing this, using its last breath to mangle the film forever. It was trying to protect me.

Who would decide to give Gilbert Gottfried not one, but two songs? WHO?

A lot, I mean a lot of wasted potential. Jafar is such a good villain, and the story in general wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it all feels squandered. The story could have used a bit more tweaking, but overall Jafar setting up Aladdin was a fairly interesting angle for a kid's movie. Poor animation and lackluster music really bring this down though. I remembered enjoying this as a kid, and it's not the worst ever, but it's also not really good either.

Totally unnecessary and a huge step down from the original.

This is just god awful. The animation is really poor in terms of quality, and the premise is just so plain terrible. Just a worthless cash-in sequel that to me is a pilot for the TV series.

Quite poor, especially compared to the original. It makes sense given the format that there would be a decline in the overall quality, but seeing as most movies of this kind are obvious cash-grabs, I feel no remorse in trashing it.

I found it terrifying when I was younger. While many of the characters and drawings look very racist, Jafar is still one of the best Disney villains.

A pretty flagrant cash-in on the goodwill generated by Part 1, but not as soulless as feared – its shortcomings feel like a case of budget stripping for direct to video - second-rate animation makes this less satisfying to look at; the return of (almost) all of the key cast members helps, and it’s fun to see Iago given a bigger and more extensive role here in the wake of Gottfried’s death. Salute to Castellaneta's bravery, who can’t fulfill an impossible task and probably shouldn’t have tried!

Very much the epitome of a direct-to-video cartoon sequel. The third one is better, but you have to watch this one to understand the continuity of the story for the third one.

Crappy sequel? Yes. But I sure do love me some Aladdin movies. :D I'm also a big Iago fan, so I liked that he was a major part of this movie.

I didn't hate this. Heck, I didn't realize the animation was piss poor until a few years later. Some of the songs are even catchy. But then again, it is kind of bad.

I find The Return of Jafar fascinating. Long after having watched it, the idea behind the plot, my recollection of certain scenes, the poster; all seem to draw me back to rewatch and reconsider it. Alas I do and it almost immediately becomes apparent why it's considered such a maligned sequel. Bad animation, lacklustre music, and a tepid pace make for a painfully disappointing film. Until the next time!

If you watch it as an adult, yeah, it's completely mediocre, the humor is all juvenile, and the animation is Saturday morning cartoon. But I liked it when I was a kid, because I liked Iago and was glad he turned good. Minor-league passive amusement.

I don't know what went wrong here. The animation got a serious downgrade, there were lots of bad, pointless songs, Homer Simpson took the Genie's place... For some reason the third movie would be a lot better.

Worse than the original in every way. The story isn't that bad, but the voice acting and music is poor, especially in comparison to the original, and the animation is just awful. No Robin Williams?????

The animation is cheap and there are major continuity issues (Aladdin's clothes completely change in one scene). Yet it's still a fairly good sequel as far as the Disney sequels go - maybe because it was one of the first.

It has nothing on the original, but I still quite enjoyed it. The animation is surprisingly poor, the voice acting is consideraly weaker for some reason, and the premise silly but...I enjoyed it. I don't know what else to say, really.
