Jude Law bangs a lot of chicks with extreme ease. And he plays a British character who is an ass How is this not a documentary?

His character arc felt really contrived. I just about burst in my shorts when Sienna Miller doffed her top, though.

Reviewing: All points for Sienna Miller's output. Okay Sarandon was good as well, but did not come out as she did. If the story is not interesting, you pay attention on secondary things.

I like this movie because it depresses me. If it was a happy movie it would be awful.

It works very well when it's Law and Tomei, otherwise, this movie really falls flat.

Not too shabby. Thought this was going to be more humor than philosophical, but this flick still managed to grip my attention throughout. Good portrayal of life and its consequences.

Disappointing remake, brought nothing really new except for some semi-clever billboard signs during the movie.

Though Jude Law's performance is distancing, the movie displays his painful evolution objectively. Sienna Miller's breasts are a plus.

Jude Law is a great actor, in my opinion, but most of the films he takes are crappy. As with this one: a needlessly heavy film that tries to be both poignant and funny, but ends up being a mess. His character's acknowledgment of the audience doesn't help; Law's charm protects him from overly smarminess, but not the rest of the film.

Law is mildly charming, the ladies are lovely, and there are a few moments where the movie shows an interesting visual style, but Christ. The movie is so hollow, so plotless, so...unlikeable. And then it ends.

It is a film of a single character. At this point works: Alfie is very well composed and real, thanks to the good script and good interpretation of Jude Law. The movie just goes bad when try to pass some lessons in morality completely unnecessary.

Jude Law is perfect in this role. Great update, much better than the original from 1966. And talking directly to the camera was a nice touch that worked extremely well.

Omg, there is a moral in the end! Why would anyone do such a terrible thing to a movie for adults? Do they think that people want moral guidance from a film? Idiots. Anyway, it was quite entertaining, easy and fun to watch, good work by the director. Script, however, is below average.

Offhand, I can't think of a mainstream movie in which the camera ravishes its male subject the way it does in Alfie. Only New York looks as good or is lit as well. The movie is fun while things are fun for Alfie, but when he has to learn his lesson it deflates.

Not particularly satisfying to watch, and recommend only doing so on the grounds of seeing some sort of chick-flickish date movie. Any attempt at catharsis comes off horribly contrived when it's packaged in a remake wanting to be mostly goofy and entertaining. The whole thing falls a bit flat as a result.

"Jude Law turns on the caddish charm in Alfie, but there's little swing to this toothless update of the minor late-60s film." - Nick Schager

Fun, that's about it. Apart from the clichéd dramatic moments, the soundtrack is quite great, actually; Law's portrayal of the eponymous womaniser pleases the eye, as well.

Alfie is an occasionally funny, sometimes effective movie that's too focused on its main idea and message that it ruins any chance it has to make the main character work out in the eyes of the audience. We need to be able to care about him by the end of the film, and that just doesn't happen -- either through his incompetence or because Law can't convince us that he's made a change in his life. It has its moments, and it's rarely dull, but Alfie is only intermittently worth your time.

At the 40 something minute mark, one wonders, is this it, is this going to be the end, the guy learnt a lesson and yadda yadda? Then, nope, it went on. The ending leaves me a bit ambiguous however. It feels a bit like watching the finale of a tv show which decided to end on a cliff hanger instead of ending with a sad but no-loose-ends conclusion.

A shallow and vacuous character gets the shallow and vacuous portrait he deserves, but the lack of wit and irony of the original film makes the second half feel like a long-winded and predictable riff on A CHRISTMAS CAROL rather than really digging in to the sadness at the heart of the character. With this cast, it's never dull and even quite fun to watch; Law is fine, but can't compete with memories of Caine (was Carter's role originally supposed to be a Caine cameo?). Nice Jagger song score.
