She departs the palace and tells him she will not return until he learns how to make love to her, and, as a parting shot, until he also shaves off his ancestral beard. Too much of one thing and not enough of another. (imdb)

"All the King's Horses" is a romantic musical comedy that misses the mark on all three aspects. This film was a clear miss for me, and I had trouble making it to the end.

The Danish Maurice Chevalier, Carl Brisson, in a elegant comedy. His leading lady Mary Ellis was equally interesting. Both did real well with what they had to work with. What didn't work as well, was the pacing of the film, which slowed down too much after a solid start. Not enough laughs for Edward Everett Horton & Eugene Pallette either. I did seriously enjoy enjoy this musical doppelgänger, but it was clear a lot of it was fairly empty as well, only held high by it's striking personalities.
