All the Old Knives

Respectably tight suspense mystery, but ultimately memorable for being a film about inappropriate locations for inappropriate things. Makeouts in a well-windowed office? Sounds sensible. Top secret, highly sensitive, teary, emotionally-charged spy talk in a dead quiet public restaurant with 'staff' and 'strangers'? Hmm. Thought Morpheus was going to pull out a couple of pills, but ah, boring dossier.

All the Old Knives is a joyless ordeal, that test your patience as Newton & Pine talk you into a coma. Fishburne & Pryce are barely noticeable. The climax is decent enough to fortunately rouse you from your slumber. While not all spy thrillers need to be non-stop action, this one could have done with something to break the monotony.

This is a decent enough mystery thriller film with a good cast. It has a bit of a James Bond feel to it, although maybe not quite so many good effects as those films have. Its interesting to see what we learn about the characters. Its not entirely memorable but its certainly a decent enough film.

Good spy thriller with a couple of twists and talented ensemble cast.

The film, paced with care, eventually provides the answers, but the real thrill is watching Pine and Newton match wits as this one-time couple dancesing around the truth, and trying not to be overwhelmed by old feelings. It's a spy thriller set long after the thrill is gone but the possibility for getting hurt remains.

An extraordinarily mediocre film with totally unnecessary love-making scenes.

The best thing for two CIA operatives to do during an active hijacking/hostage situation is to make out and ask the other to move in with them. There's also a 5 minute sex scene, so if your goal is to see Chris Pine's butt, this is the movie for you. Also, the timeline makes no sense.

While the film has its flaws, it is a refreshingly sexy thriller full of tension and fun reveals that will keep you guessing until the end. Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton's performances, along with the alluring romantic chemistry between them, make the film worth watching.
