We're definitely not in Hollywood anymore. David Gordon Green continues to impress - following the amazing "George Washington" - with a raw and emotionally real romance that avoids all the pitfalls and all the clichees of the genre, instead stripping this story of love and lust down to the bone - down to the two central characters (well-acted by Deschanel and Schneider). Points for cinematography and music. Green's movies look dreamlike while simultaneously maintaining a great sense of presence.

This movie breaks my heart every time I see it. I can't get enough of Schneider and Deschanel and their complicated mess of a relationship. Forget The Notebook, this is true love captured on film.

First off, it's a beautiful looking movie. The shots look great, and it sets the mood really well. Great performances from pretty much the whole cast (Danny McBride manages to be charming as well), and most of the supporting characters get a little bit of screen time without making the movie too jumbled. It's pretty quirky at times, but never too much so. Great, great movie.

All the Real Girls is amazing. It dismisses all the cliches of a movie romance and makes you feel like you are in love or when you are watching a good movie, like this one, for instance.

Green's films are easily recognizable. The tone is understated and poetic, containing lyrical cinematography and dialogue. He's always had an uncanny ability to capture the way people interact and relate, and that's part of what makes this such an original and affecting romance. Definitely a personal favorite of mine.

An incredibly touching romance, free of sentimentality and sensationalism. The dialogue is down-to-earth, and the improvisation lends it a fantastic organic quality. The actors hesitate and stumble over their words, making every line that much more believable. Just a remarkable film that achieves very authentic emotions.

It suffers just a bit from a fashionable disdain for plot, but the superb acting (natural and skillful in improvisation, astonishing in emotional power), the starkly beautiful cinematography, the evocative musical score, and the way all three are unified into a powerful whole by the poetic intensity of Green's direction, more than make up for it. Few films give us a place as fully realized as this small, decaying North Carolina factory town.

I tolerated it as long as I could. Good performances, but I like some kind of story to take place during a movie.

Seemingly simplistic yet complicated portrait of love and every day American life. The use of realism is so powerful that at times it feels as if your part of the characters reality as opposed to just an audience of it.

I can't deal with the random indie dialogue. I wish somebody would just have a normal conversation. Zooey Deschanel's character is on a pedestal miles high and Paul Schneider atones and apologizes for being a man. Typical female worship by the writers.

Green's good, albeit slightly disappointing, follow-up to 'George Washington' is a somewhat original take on the romance genre that is thankfully unformulaic but not, unfortunately, as genuine as expected. Many scenes and characters didn't, in fact, come off as real to me. Also, I fail to acknowledge any appeal whatsoever of the apparently popular McBride. Deschanel was all right and Schneider, co-writing with Green as well as starring, acquitted himself very well.

Each scene is a stanza; the narrative chimes in like a refrain. Green is unafraid to include shots merely because they are interesting. Most memorable is the film's dialogue, which I've heard is improvised, but doesn't sound like filmed results of most improvisations, which are long on repetition and short on inspiration. It actually sounds like these lines are being said for the first time, and the characters are feeling their way through their situations at the same time that we are.

As far as modern-day romances go, this is a very quiet and unassuming one. It's as simple as they come and is all the more effective for its lack of sentiment and its modest ambition, allowing its actors room to work with their characters (the cast is excellent, particularly the two leads).

I couldn't connect with this at all. The guy's dating his friend's sister, which causes drama, but then she *gasp* leaves town and hooks up with and outsider, which causes drama, and then she faux-dates the dude's friend, which causes even more drama, and then the guy won't instantly forgive her for all of the above, which causes the most drama of all. Fuck this. I enjoyed Snow Angels a lot, I had high hopes for All the Real Girls since it's widely considered Green's best. I was disappointed.

While it doesn't hold up as well on repeat viewings, Green injects a number of interesting ideas here--both visually and narratively. I appreciate the simple interactions between strange and often mismatched people in this small town, bringing out something of significance in their dealings with one another. I remembered the film as much more lyrical than it turned out to be, and the film seems to lose steam in its third act when it gets a touch overemotive and overwritten.

I felt like it was trying too hard to be "honest" or something. Too much gentle music and too many instances of people inarticulately saying something that's accidentally profound. Green is doing everything he can not to get too big, but there's a transparency to to the quietude that annoyed me. I liked the sentiments being expressed, there's some lovely touches, and Zooey Deschanel is surprisingly not that bad. I just didn't care enough about these characters to be more than mildly interested.

David Gordon Green's All the Real Girls is a large success. He seems to give minimal direction in regards to his actors, allowing them to go about each scene as if they were involved in it in real life. This allows for a film that feels natural and very real. When the emotions run high, we feel like we're there every step of the way. When it loses focus of the leading romance, it does start to drag a bit, but because of how much we care about the main characters, it is absolutely worth a watch.

Excellent in its ability to make you fall in love with characters that you end up getting fed up with by its conclusion. However, when it decides to break your heart- it does. Everyone in this movie looks way older than 22 and acts like they failed grade 9 english.
