Overdone HS football movie with a stupid Hollywood ending. Tom Cruise was such an insufferable twit that I was expecting character development, overcoming adversity, etc. Maybe some commentary on the extinction of blue collar America. Nope, he gets the girl and a fucking full ride scholarship. Who would seriously take Cruise for a college football player? Fav scene: captivating Thompson refreshingly lays into Cruise for being shitty (but then the crappy script makes her immediately forgive him).

For the most part it's a standard, utilitarian high school sports drama, no problem but completely overshadowed these days by Friday Night Lights. I'd normally give it a 50 or so and be on my way. But Lea Thompson is the one actress I spent my childhood most wanting to see naked, and here it is. So I have to bump that score a little bit.

This movie has some good moments and it is well cast. However the ending of the film seems added at the last minute and it ruins the tone of the film. With a better script this would have been a better film.

Lea Thompson naked counts for something, of course. However, the rest of the cliched high school tropes are tired. 5'7 140 pound Cruise does not pass well for a football star.

Meh. It's alright, that's all that really can be said about it.

The only good thing about this film is the 30 seconds it spends to make you realize sports coaches have entirely too much power over kids and their future. Tom Cruise also comes dangerously close to revealing too much of himself
