Moody psychological horror film perhaps borrows a little too heavily from MULHOLLAND DR. (and to a lesser extent PERSONA) but Davis' excellent and viscerally unsettling portrait of seething intensity distinguishes the sometimes predictable plotting and character beats. Takal's direction is workmanlike but at least doesn't rely on jump-scares, instead creating a quite oppressive, disturbing ambience. Inconclusive finale is perhaps something of a let-down.

I can see what you are trying to do but you need to try harder.

There are bits here I really like. Takal films almost every dialogue like it's an audition - everyone trying to put on a performance that will win the other over, will make the right impression, will hide who you really are, lest you appear unladylike and be written off. Unfortunately the plot gets lost in sub-Lynch headfuckery that doesn't really go anywhere, and the whole thing sort of fizzles out. But promising.

They really tried, but it ended up being a little less than De Palma's mulholland drive :/

A friend is someone you have let into your life at a deeper level. Always Shine shows what a risk that is and how scary it can be when there is betrayal. The scene with Anna pacing back and forth on the deck stood out to me. The film technique used where the camera stayed with her and left you wondering what was on the other side of the deck caused so much stress.

Starts to unravel and can't quite get contained or go off the chain enough. Of course that dude is making a experimental short

To be fair, I don't have much affinity for Mulholland Drive or 3 Women either.
