this happens to me when I drive to Boyle Heights. Bay had been living in the shadow of Tony Scott for most of his career, and only now does he seem to rise to that stylistic reputation, bearing flaws and all.

When you've got movies like Yahya and Gyllenhaal in them, you can't lose. Bay's best film since The Rock gives exactly what you need from an action flick, firing on all cylinders. I think we've maybe found a new secret sauce for Bay, great actors at the top of their game grounding the absurdity. And wait what's this? A gay central character that isn't an offensive caricature in a Michael Bay film? He's evolving, Michael Bay evolved into Michael Bae.

like all Bay movies so brash you won’t be able to catch your breath. you need to see it in the cinema with the score slowly pulsing and building up your anxieties matching the claustrophobic nature of the movie. There’s drones and helicopters and buildings everywhere. There’s no escape in LA. No escape from the eyes of tech. A heist movie kids dream of making (or used now they just want to make A24 dramas WE USED TO BE A PROPER COUNTRY). It’s as American as cinema gets. It’s propaganda.

Could have been a big dumb Bay action flick but Ambulance REALLY takes itself too seriously. Jake is pretty fun with his hammy villain but YAM2 is once again such a dull bland actor that it's impossible to care about his character. Gonzalez does well with what she is given and Bay finds a way to include a subtle ass shot by framing EGs bent over rear along side Jake's face which made me laugh. That was about as much fun as I had though in this overly long and drawn out disappointment.

Ambulance has all the Bayisms one would expect. It's central premise grows tiring, the subplots are underdeveloped nonsense, and I find little reason to ever revisit it. But Gyllenhaal delivers gleeful one-liners, the action feels fairly inventive, and I'm guessing that the journey through LA is fun for those who know the city.

Bay had too much fun with weird drone and camera stuff at the beginning but seemed to calm down enough by the middle and end that I didn't get nausea. Gyllenhaal seems to be having fun. I guess it was worth a watch, although it was a bit exhausting and I probably would have enjoyed it more if someone else directed it or they at least zoomed out so you could tell what was going on half the time.

If you thought a Tony Scott film had too much direction... By now, we all know what we are going to get watching a Michael Bay film. Everything. You are going to get everything. Some of it is good, most of it is not. Some of the action scenes are quite exciting, but the "humor" and the dialogue are really awful.

Why have a static shot when you can just always move the camera? Are we due for a Michael Bay critical re-evaluation? This takes place in Los Angeles, just in case you didn't get that from the poster.

Bay's best. More down to earth and taking the characters seriously, "Ambulance" is a crazy ride with drone shots, twists and lots of bangs and booms. It only stumbles two or three times, but never lets go otherwise. One of the great LA films.

I'd kill to be an camera-assistant on Michael Bay's next film... I'm not even kidding, I would take someone's life to reach that goal. [LOOKS OVER TO MANAGER] What's that, the mic's still on?

It does well with installing modern techniques and technology, and then does nothing for some of it meaning this story is very stupid and impossible. The comedic relief was good. But what i hate most about these films is why can’t the robbers win. They have very good reasons but of course they do a right thing, only to screw themselves by spending life in jail

136 minutes is an obscene amount of time to spend on a thriller as simple as Ambulance, which has exactly the kind of compact premise that Walter Hill or Don Siegel could have carried out in slightly over half the time. Bay continues to turn noisy excess into something close to avant-garde mainstream cinema, just as Kent Jones claimed over 20 years ago. I still can’t join the revolution.

This is the best Bay has done in a long time. Like most Bay films, it has serious flaws in the screenwriting department, it has a lot of typical oddball dialogue, and this probably could’ve had 20 minutes trimmed. However, this movie has the tension and the action you look for with Bay, but despite it’s iffy story arch, there is a lot of emotion and likeness to his characters here, and there is a lot moments where it shines. It’s a Bay film, but this is a good step up for him.

In general, I would say "give me as much scumbag Jake Gyllenhaal as possible", and he's certainly good in that space once again here. Some of the action is good, some of it needed more time in the workshop (ie. the shootout at the bank), BUT, it is all shot immaculately and in an exciting way because, well, it's Michael Bay. The story is... well, it is what it is, and the trailer for this absolutely makes it look better than it actually is. While I had higher hopes, I'm not fully disappointed.

I somehow doubt it was Bay's point but the level of cop-worship is moronic to the point where I'm debating whether it was satire. Idiotic politics aside, the film gets dumber the longer it goes on as every character's motivation unravels. Given the amount of camera spin, I'm starting to think that Bay can't watch his own material as he films it. The action is somewhat entertaining & Gyllenhaal edging into mania is fun; but it's a Michael Bay film, so you get what you expect. Also González ≠ Fox.

It's overdirected. There are times when the camera just zooms/pans/moves in weird directions/angles suddenly, and then there are a ton of frenetic quick edits. It can be a little exhausting. There's some stupid dialogue (admittedly some funny stuff in there too) and like a lot of Michael Bay movies, it needed to be trimmed. And yet I can sit here and say that I enjoyed it! It was fun. Watching Danny's descent into basically becoming his criminal father was fun too but Jake is great in general.

Pretty dumb but maybe not as dumb as it appears. Completely over-directed with drone swoops, unnecessary cuts, and stupid camera angles. The second half seemed better, but maybe that was Stockholm syndrome setting in. I had to watch it at a faster speed because it's honestly very boring, despite all the car chases, shootouts with hardly anybody getting shot, and drama. I did kinda like the dynamic in the Ambulance and Jake does okay as crazy but likable.

Michael Bay is still the same. Some drone shots are awesome, some dialogues are fun, but apart from that, bad script, constant cliché moments and fast pace that becomes boring after a while. It was a really tiring film to watch. Jake and Yahya were good.

Viewed April 7, 2022. Loud, disorienting, often off-putting, moments of visual beauty or crass humor scattered among the chaos. The film opens with some rough exposition, and closes with a fair amount of treacly sentimentality, but the 100 minutes in the middle are truly thrilling: the best action of Bay's career, as layered and complex as anything in 6 Underground, beautifully paced and full of great practical effects.

So - if you remove all the story elements and robots from Transformers, and all you're left is 2+ hours of a sexy car chase with explosions...that's what Ambulance is. It has some fun ideas, and the premise of it being an ambulance is cool...but I think it ultimately could have been better.

Great acting, excellent script, and production value off the charts. Could have used fewer annoying drone swoops but the action is generally solid. Good pacing. My only gripe is that it's sometimes tough to tell what's going on. But overall it's a solid action flick in the classic Michael Bay style.

Peak Bayhem filmmaking - damn near every shot either has shaking, swooping or swinging camera, lens flare or sweaty extreme close up, plus the vehicular destruction of three normal action films and Gyllenhaal doing the biggest, most scenery-chewing acting of his career. I did however find its length and pacing punishing and felt it could have lost a few subplots easy. Makes Die Hard, Air Force One and Speed look downright patient and methodical it’s so numbingly nonstop.

Filmin sonunda, Jake Gyllenhaal ruhuna el-fatiha. Gel birazcık sola doğru. Seviyorsan bana doğru.

Perfect Michael Bay. Which means it's completely imperfect, but a wonderfully manic action flick that keeps you entertained for nearly the whole 2+ hr runtime. It's one of those movies that isn't "very good", but it's also at the peak of what it's trying to be. Gonzalez is stunning, and does a great job here. Good work from Gyllenhaal & Abdul-Mateen as well. If you know you're tuning into a Bay action flick and you like those you won't be disappointed. Some absolutely ridiculous choices by law e

It creates this relentless pace for itself but ultimately loses itself within that. We get a muddied mess of talented actors showcasing too much in order to try and make this all believable. It is very hard to suspend belief for a film that doesn't allow itself a moment to breathe. It smothers any hope of a cohesive story as it unfolds with more and more ridiculousness at the centre. It's wild.

Michael Bay really can't help himself, can he? There's a really solid dramatic core here with the central three characters trapped in a precarious situation all just trying to find a way out alive but it nearly gets lost in the sea of performative machismo, cop porn, and melodramatic action shots. Still, it is undoubtedly one of Bay's best productions - not that that's a high bar to meet.

Despite its flaws, "Ambulance" is an enjoyable and thrilling film with fantastic performances from its lead actors. Bay's signature style and the film's tense atmosphere make it a good time at the movies, but it falls short in exploring its underlying social issues.

Bay's direction is a mess like always. The way he uses a drone is so obnoxious, and the tone is all over the place with the content being cheesy as hell but the soundtrack and slow-mo golden-hour shots insisting that everything is so dramatic. I would call this the worst original score I've heard in a while but it's possible the music might be fine in a different context. It's like putting the score to Schindler's List over Hobo With a Shotgun

Props for the drone work and overall insanity with the right amount of absurdist humour, but at the end of the day it's still utter nonsense and way too long - it's exhausting watching what is essentially a frenetically directed car chase for 2 hours, but I guess if you're in the right mood and can just shake your head and run with it you'll be fine.

The old-school plot and the juuust unhinged enough performance from Gyllenhaal carries this movie. The stupidity of the dialogue and the plot isn’t that bothersome to me but what got me the most was the erratic editing. So many shots just feel like they end just a few moments too soon and even calm dialogue scenes are shot on cocaine. It gives energy to the movie but it also makes you dizzy, removing any sense of geography in every action scene. (So the entire movie)

This is an action movie in its purest sense. No need for romantic plots and family drama. You get a heist and you get a chase that lasts for almost the entire movie and that was what I was there for. There are so many plot holes and weird things happening with this one, plus Bay really fell in love with those drone shots a bit too much! You need to throw all sensibility right out of the window and just enjoy the action. It was pretty damn nice for that.
