The second posthumous script I've seen from the great Kurosawa - neither of which have met with a favorable reaction from me. There's a certain energy captured early on that put a smile on my face, but it quickly wears off on me as the homage feeling slips into straight-out thievery (and not of the talented sort, especially in a few roles). The score dips into some truly saccharine spots, and honestly, the writing isn't even that good.

A simple exercise in beauty both literal and figurative. It looks great and its depiction of the lead's humanity is wonderful, slowly revealing a bit more nuance about his actions as things progress. The limited scope is very appropriate as the film says what it's trying to say efficiently and effectively.

Nice little story which is product simpleness. Is it hard so understand for Holywood and other productions that good story must no have so heavy plot and that is idea what is count? Well this movie does it on it's way...

This movie has some of the most beautiful cinematography. This is one of those movies you won't forget for a few weeks. It's so simple and beautiful.
