American Dreams: Lost and Found

Viewed February 22, 2022. James Benning’s cinematic college traces the unraveling of the American identity from the 50s into the 70s through a multilayered examination of social and cultural history. The film’s multi-plane flow of information is deliberately challenging to take in, but once you learn how to watch it (or read it and listen to it, as it were), its fragmented style seems a great way to understand a tumultuous time in our media-saturated culture.
