American Underdog

I didn't know the full back story of Kurt Warner and it was interesting to see it presented here in American Underdog. Levi and Paquin are a cute couple and easy to root for even when you know things are gonna eventually go their way. I was surprised and a little disappointed though when AU chose to focus on Warner's first NFL game for the movie's climax when the Superbowl was surely the more miraculous moment, and this robs the viewer of the ultimate Feel Good ending.

The story is incredible which makes for a good watch pretty much by default, and with that in mind this probably should have been even better than it was. It feels a bit basic.

I had a free RedBox rental so just picked a movie at random. I'm not a football fan and barely even know the name Kurt Warner, but this was still a good, inspirational story which was as much about family as it was about football. Better than usual casting for a movie of this type. I really applaud the casting of newcomer and visually impaired Hayden Zaller, who, after reading up on the movie, seems to have really captured Kurt's real life stepson Zach.

It’s the definition of mediocre but the story is so great that you have a good time. Nothing special.

Pretty standard cheesy sports movie formula, but executed so well with such a great story that it works.

Sure, it's a bit schmaltzy, but Levi and Paquin's performances and the wholesome story caught me. It's a nice movie.

Outstanding story, decent movie. Cheesy hallmark style for a lot of it, but still enjoyable. Levi and Paquin are good, Zaller is outstanding. A bit surprising to focus on his first NFL start as the culmination and completely gloss over the super bowl, but I still enjoyed it overall. 6.5

No NFL player's rise from obscurity deserved a movie more than Warner's. The nuances of the quarterback position were handled with kid gloves, and some elements didn't sit right, but it was an enjoyable ride.
