S1: Come for the dick jokes, but stay for the seriously well-crafted mystery. It's a really sharp parody of the contemporary true crime documentary. It's also got some really witty comedy about today's teen culture. It's honestly way better than it has any right to be. S2: Much less funny than S1, but perhaps even more insightful, covering issues and ideas like false confessions, lonlieness in the digital age, athletic focus in academia, and on and on. Truly brilliant.

Played completely serious 95% of the time it expertly plays the stupid, base, juvenile humor off the artistic craftsmanship of a slick true crime documentary. It's got some really on point parody of documentaries, some hilarious set-ups and payoffs, and then lots and lots and lots of dick jokes. So while it has more to offer than the dicks, you gotta be down with the dicks to get anything out of it. So I ask, do you like dicks? Or serious conversations about ball hair? Season 2 update: also good

At first, I was about to turn it off, but then I let it settle in and this became a fairly amazing parody of the current true crime documentary explosion. It's very well done and only occasionally has a spot of weak acting. 27 dicks.

A better Serial than Serial despite the parody intentions. Both seasons have a thin veneer of a silly premise that gives way to legitimately-engrossing mysteries and interesting characters. Season 1 > Season 2 as S1 is clearly funnier and a more engaging mystery but S2 is fairly close in quality and the ultimate moral is impeccable.

Aside from the dick jokes this is a well crafted story about innocence and guilt and how reputation can persuade someone into believing something that is not true. If you can handle dick joke after dick joke after dick joke then this may be your type of satire. The cast and crew delivered a fun parody of a genre that never feels real even if it is based on true crimes. American Vandal is a funny show on many levels and definitely layers itself within the mystery of "who drew the dicks"

Remember how you laughed about dicks on cars in the first episode? Remember how you didn't laugh at anything in the last episode? So, is that an achievement of AV? You tell me. (Amazing casting, though)

Okay, I didn't think I'd be able to tolerate the dick jokes, but they take the backseat to a truly engrossing mystery and an incredibly accurate depiction of high schoolers and the ethical implications of true crime reporting in the viral era. Fucking gold.

Funny at times, overplayed at others. Better than the content they parody, worth watching, but expect a bunch of unfunny or bland moments.

An amazingly written, well acted and directed piece of work. Far more than the dick and shit jokes on the surface.

Stupid concept yet fucking hilarious. Watch yourself get so invested in something you couldn't give a fuck about in real life.

One of the freshest comedies I've seen in a long time. It's ridiculously funny in its mockumentary style that parodies sensationalist true crime docs.

A rare gem. Truly unpredictable. Writing that constantly keeps you on your toes. Assumptions made in one episode will be completely annihilated by the next, then rebuilt by the next, each twist as paradoxically unpredictable and logical as the next. Definitively THE best depiction of high school life in any show. A hilarious and dramatic must-watch. STRONG/HIGH 8

A perfect send up of true crime documentaries, and the story is compelling enough to stand on its own even if you're not a fan of what it's satirizing.

This is some of the dumbest shit that exists in the world of television, but it is so good for just that reason. Season two makes this more literal than metaphorical.
