Over-praised. A contrived and heavy-handed soap opera with an over-reliance on cheap sentiment. And, in spite of what passes for "grittiness", as the film progresses it strays farther and farther from any kind of realism, betraying a falseness that lies at its core. Whatever meagre cleverness is required to interweave a few stories, the result lacks genuine significance, coming across as little more than a calling card to Hollywood who, in their wisdom, did in fact come calling.

The first part of Iñárritus Life sucks-trilogy is also the best one. However it is not the masterpiece everyone says. The film is a long journey through a lot of sad stories. I do not mind tragic tales. But if you do not include some sort of contrasting emotions, the sad parts do not engage. And by the way the connection between the stories is nothing but a gimmick. Just like in Babel it is just a plot tool to combine the different parts.

This movie does not fuck around. Except for that part where the dog is trapped under the apartment floor; it fucked around for a while there. But then it paid that part off well and stopped fucking around again. The movie is brilliantly directed and written, and harsh as hell. I was reminded of Los olvidados at times, even though they're very different films in many respects.

None of the three tales is very engaging, and none gains much by their merger -- besides bulk. (Two and a half hours' worth.) But you can see why the filmmaker has been likened to Tarantino: a less daunting benchmark than, say, Faulkner.

What a great debut. Inarritu has seems to keep retreading the structure, but it works really well here, and all 3 stories are equally painful and melancholy. The incident that ties the three together is shocking each time it's shown. Not for big fans of dogs, but I'd recommend it to anyone else.

Great film. Unique(*) with one amzing story. Told in a not-liniar way , wich was perfect for the movie. You easily can see the refering to Tarantino ( espacially openingscene ). Sometimes dark and emotional. (*)To bad he used the same format in his other films after this one

Highly overrated. Though the film starts off at an excellent pace, the length eventually begins to bog down on the audience. Too many scenes are far too drawn out, and the second two narratives seem superfluously tacked on to the dog-fighting story. Though there are some amazing scenes and the acting is all around top-notch, there is something poignantly hollow about this cinematic exercise.

Very strong story dedicated to dogs and their owners. They said in the movie that the dogs and their owners start to look each other. And that happens in the movie. Episodes slide nicley together, but the strongest is the first one. The second one is pretty easy, but the last wraps up the whole movie nicely though the very end could be better done. I liked a lot small details which set the timing for each episode.

In the second story, when the magazine editor said he couldn't afford to redo the floor if he smashed it up to look for his girlfriend's dog, why didn't the model, who was clearly very successful, offer to pay to redo the floor, if she cared so much about finding the dog, which was, after all, her dog?

'Amores Perros' tells three different stories, all superficially connected by a car accident. However, they are all also connected on a more substantial level through their themes of violence and loyalty (a theme visually conveyed through the prominence of dogs throughout the picture.) The end result is a powerful and impressive first outing by director Inarritu.

So this guy has the opportunity to make a movie and figures he may only get one chance so he does his trilogy as a single film. So the first part is is pretty exciting (except they tell us beforehand all the dog action is fake), the second part mildly interesting, & the third part excruciatingly long & slow, punctuated by moments. Some great shots. Really long.

You're either going to find this movie brilliant or violent, disgusting, and obnoxiously difficult to follow. And if you hate subtitles? Forget about it. I enjoyed the interwoven, wandering storyline, the pace of the movie which allows you to digest it all. A note to animal lovers and sensitive types: there are some highly graphic but completely fake scenes of animal abuse and dog fighting in this film.

A complex but compelling group of stories about love and loss, linked by both dogs and a particular car crash. While engaging for large portions, it feels a little over-reached and lacking in connection between the stories. Excellent direction and cinematography make it an enjoyable film, although I felt that concentration on one of the 3 'stories' would have made the point adequately.

Alejandro González Iñárritu is a powerful filmmaker. Just like 'Babel' you have powerful drama mixed with action that feels so real. You also get another great Bernal performance. The themes are presented so well that even by the trilogies ('21 Grams', 'Babel') conclusion you won't be sick of them.

I love the harsh setting and themes, but like their other films (21 Grams, Babel), none of the stories or characters are particularly memorable or well-conceived and none of it has any lasting impact. It's really more hollow than harrowing. It's also way too long and contains too many superfluous scenes (not to mention an entirely superfluous second act).

Not a bad movie by any stretch, but I can't help but feel a little bit disappointed. The film was hard to connect to (not sure if the language barrier contributed to that) and was not as good as Inarritu's 21 Grams or other non-linear films. I did like the 3rd segment though, and felt that without this story about a lonely hitman, the film would have been far worse without out it as the first two segments were just kind of average. For me, it lacked the performances that made 21 Grams so good.
