An Angel for Satan

This has 2 ending twists that initially felt unnecessary & also seemed to create certain plotholes, but after giving it some thought, it seems that the twists highlight the film's core idea: there's little difference between the male desire to "spread his seed" & being taken over by magic. The behaviors meant to illustrate this lust are implausibly overdone, but there's some truth in the idea. There's also some welcome salaciousness for the time (dominatrix parallels & a hint of lesbianism).

Um Anjo para Satã estreava há 55 anos na Itália. Acho que esse filme tem uma ambientação muito boa, muito pela ocupação do tempo e espaço na presença mais do que dominante da diva Barbara Steele, mas o final me pareceu tão corrido e broxante que meio que antecipa alguns finais ducha de água fria que ocorrerão em giallos da próxima década. This is professionally crafted Italian gothic horror and holds its own against bigger productions. The lake, estate and the surroundings are beautifully shot and De Masi's score adds to the classy feel. Steele is good in a double role and it was fun to see Steffen in this kind of early role as opposed to mediocre spaghetti westerns. Still, I found myself admiring this more than actually getting absorbed in it properly. I guess I like my Italian gothic horrors with more edge and dreamy.
