An Interview with God

Its disastrous first-draft screenplay (stolen from a Christian middle school drama club) is shot in random angles to fill the time, meaning nothing, saying little, without cohesion or flow. Painful. (Culture Night Feature)

Has some weirdly good shots and Strathairn is good in his role, but this movie blows. The questions directed to God are simplistic and uninteresting coming from a theology major (even weirder given that Islam is never even mentioned) with the answers being either generic modern Christian platitudes or vague non-sense. The overarching plotline of the lead going through depression over his faith and personal demons is laughably ham-fisted due to the melodramatic music and cinematography

God deserves better.

The title evokes the work of Neale Donald Walsch, but this isn't quite as bad as that. For one, the writer of this doesn't claim Him as a co-writer. And the production company, Giving Films, apparently Gives all the profits from its Films to charity. While their site and socials are scant on details, some searching reveals that the recipients include groups that, while Christian, seem to do good, non-Evangelical work, like Lifewater International. It's too bad I didn't pay to watch this movie.
